2 points to stay up

people going on about west ham’s goal difference superior , this is all that needs to happen for us to go down

West Ham 1-1 Arsenal
Palace 0-2 Everton

Brentford 1-0 palace

Newcastle 0-2 Weat Ham
Man City 4-0 Palace

West Ham 3-1 Leeds
Palace 1-3 Arsenal

That sends us down on goals scored it’s not unreasonable when put like that is it
What about the Spurs & Forest results?
Pathetically pessimistic.

People keep going on about how we won't all die in an apocalypse but all it takes is this:

Trump launches a nuclear weapon at Iran
Bonnie Blue breaks the one million mark
Taylor Swift has two more number one albums
Asda sell out of microwave curries
A meteor the size of Croydon hits a nuclear power station
Dogs are given driving licences by the Labour government.

Doesn't sound so unlikely now does it?

NOOOOOOOOOOO

Maybe I should know this, but what happens if we win the Conference and are relegated? Do we still get to play in the Europa?

I don't think we will go down, but just had this thought.

It's been a long and arduous season which I will in many ways be glad to see the back of.

However. it's probably turned out to be much as expected / feared , with us struggling to maintain league form at the same time as making a fist of our European campaign, which to date has entailed us playing 15 games ( 16 by the time we play the 2nd leg on Thursday). Until the matches against Fiorentina ( home) and Shakthar (away) our European journey has been patchy, and there have been few highlights in our PL season.

So let's go on to win the Conference, and we can forget about all the mediocrity that has gone before.

are yis all mathematically & statistically thick or wha ?

it would be easier to get a Camel through the eye of a needle than for Palace to be relegated this season.

Its the Oldham probability divided by the Avogadro constant. We need 3 teams below us to all suddenly turn into Bayern Munich (and whoever faces them to turn into Charlton )....plus us to get thumped in our forthcoming 4 games.

Us getting relegated is about as likely as a Royal wedding for Prince Andrew held at Thornton Heath.

Much as I’ve been banging on about us not going down, 33 years later could history repeat itself??

We beat Ipswich at home last home game and were celebrating staying up at the player of the year do that night 😳
Yep but that was between us and Oldham. This time 4 teams involved. The odds would be staggering

Yes, and in the last game, Arsenal had one of our former players who scored the goal that put us down. That couldn’t happen again, could it?
Ha, I was thinking the very same thing earlier today. being gloomy and pessimistic about Palace results is part of my soul. I'm sure i wasn't born like this but instead it has manifested itself accross 60 years of support. As for Arse vs Spam, didn't Spam win there last year. I am. however, still holding on to an Arsenal win next weekend as our prime saviour because I can make no case for us reversing fortune versus Everton, although it is somewhat overdue.

W.Ham did indeed win at Arsenal, 1-0, their first away win under Graham Potter.

I agree with your central point about aspiration and having ambition, but nonetheless I have found this season not particularly enjoyable in terms of flat performances - which I think are partly attributable to the Thursday/Sunday cycle of games.
You only have to look at our results and performances after our European fixtures.

I may be alone in this , but I can't (and never could) get excited about our participation in the Conference, where in fact we've reserved time for some of our most inept performances.

With a more limited fixture and less testing schedule there's no reason why we couldn't have been pushing for top 6 like Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford have been doing.
There's an argument that this is more aspirational and more of a feat than trying to win a Micky Mouse competition against second rate European teams where we were made favourites before a ball was kicked.
I accept there is a counter argument that many clubs would swap positions with us in terms of a probable chance of winning a European competition.
I just don't find it particularly persuasive when I look at what , in my view, has been a poor season from us.
I agree football has been poor at times but you can say that about the league in general this year. I struggle with the second rate comments. We are never going to win the league.

In ten years time and look back would rather have trophies in the cabinet than finish 10th

Yeah, I know, but look what happened last time we thought we'd won a place. It's just that I can't recall a Championship club competing in the Europa.
Because teams don’t tend to get relegated after winning a place in Europe. It’s been a year of firsts for us🤣
Millwall played in Europe as a 2nd tier side about 20 years ago, they qualified because they lost the cup final to Man U and they’d already qualified for the champions league

I will give odds of 100 to 1 to anyone who wants too bet 20 quid that Palace get relegated. The only problem is if you really think that’s going to happen how will you cope with the earthquake / alien invasion / meteor dropping on your house that you must spend every waking moment worrying about ? Get real lads it’s been a disappointing league campaign but I’d gladly take finishing 17th if we win a European trophy.
