Playing style​

Hughes is a commanding ball-playing centre-back, who can also play in midfield. He is extremely comfortable in possession with an exceptional passing range. Strong in defence and exhibits strong leadership qualities, having captained the Wigan side on several occasions from 19 years old and for most of the 2023–24 season.
 
Never heard of the chap, but a quick google search suggests he’s an in demand 21 year old, ball playing CB playing for Hull City.

Seems a lot of negativity thus far in the thread, but I think we’re all in agreement that we need two CB’s. If we can land one of Diomande or Jacquet as the immediate Guehi replacement, this seems to fit our profile of buying young talent from The Championship.

He probably wouldn’t make the first 11 right now but he’d get plenty of game time in the cups and be first back up. £14m is a small transfer fee these days.

Very little information on this rumour online.

I think I recall there being a brief mention of our interest in him several weeks ago. I suspect he may be on our list but not necessarily at the top but since our higher up targets may have already gone or don't want to come etc... interest in Hughes is resurfacing.
