Odsonne Edouard

Last year when OG walked through the door one of the first things he identified was that Edouard was a lazy waste of space that needed removing from the building (much the same view as most of us)

A disaster of a loan move to Leicester last season may have woken Odsonne from his slumber however . Pre season has seen some efforts to actually play in the team which was rewarded with a place on the bench at Wembley . I know we had few options but Glasner would rather have given that spot to the tea lady this time last year

So some progress I suppose , at his best he is a decent back up ,possibly a 4th striker that is more than capable against lesser opposition .

At his best he’s better than that. In terms of goal scoring ability when in front of goal he’s probably ahead of Nketiah. Unfortunately his work rate is so low he rarely gets in front of goal and isn’t prepared to put in a shift defensively. I suspect he was on the bench to show Steve how limited the squad is.

His problem is he lacks the raw pace that is needed in our mostly counter attacking play ,by the time he gets in the box the keeper has taken the goal kick

You say he is better than that (4th striker) then that he was on the bench to show the limitations of the squad ,he can't really be both . But as you point out his defensive contribution his his downfall ,he just doesn't look like a Glasner player .
On the other hand if he is not asked to track back and stay in an attacking position (say celtic) he would probably look half decent and attract the interest of some lower premier division team desperate for a goalscorer 🙄

I would have been tempted to put him on the pitch to emphasise it still further, but I suppose we did want to win.

I did qualify my view by saying “at his best” so I think both statements are valid. Sadly he’s rarely ant his best and as you say doesn’t fit Glasner’s play due to his lack of defensive work and limited pace. Sticking him on the bench despite that feels like a message.
Interestingly he looked the real deal when he first played in Rodger’s Celtic side and they were reasonably quick. He tended to play wide left and first season was often sprinting onto balls played out from defence. Season 2 he looked like a totally different player and one who would never have coped with Angeball. Difficult to understand what happened to him.

It's called being paid too much. It happens to a lot of footballers. It would take you about five seconds to think of several.

Possibility although he wasn’t on a fortune at Celtic. More that he thought he was too good for them perhaps? Scoring 2 goals for us in his first game may have added to his arrogance. I recall seeing him with his entourage outside Selhurst after the game.

Sadly, my thinking is that he's never looked able enough, comfortable, happy or enthusiastic. It would be a major surprise if he was able to turn that around. Leicester was an opportunity, but he failed to impress there either. Palace need to grab the best money they can. Good luck to him IF he can 'do the business' elsewhere, but surely enough time here?

Hopefully this gets wrapped up soon. He is in big wages and would certainly help meeting uefa rules this season on wages and give us some wiggle room
When we extended his contract for a year so we could sell him (🤣🤣) do you reckon we were stupid enough to give him the same high wages? I bloody hope not.

Eddie and Ayew combined well, he was not prolific but scored some good goals here yet he never played at Leicester even when they looked 'doomed'.

His face does not fit, reputation, something we don't know?

I thought he would be on for Mateta but not yet anyway, we look light of a couple of players, a Chalobah type would be extremely useful.
