£40m IS a bargainThere was always going to be haggling.
Liverpool want a bargain. We want £40 million, they are probably offering £25 million or less. We will settle around £30 million, or he will stay.

With one year on his contract?£40m IS a bargain
Sell Guehi this summer for £30M - Buy a replacement CB for £30M…net spend zero.
Don’t sell Guehi this summer (walks for free) - Buy a replacement CB for £30M…net spend £30M
I’m also unsure the kind of Season we’ll get from him whilst he’s running his last few months down. Look at the situation with TAA at Liverpool, that was a total distraction that neither then club or the player needed and it affected his performances considerably.
Over say 6 years the numbers may work and if you really want him the fact his contract is in its last year may not be an issueWith one year on his contract?
It comes down to how much Liverpool want him. They have the money.
We have to pay Chelsea a good chunk of his fee, so I'd keep him rather than let him go cheap.
The downside is he walks next Summer, and we need to splash out for a centre half.
Do we? If the 20% is true (as opposed to matching rights option) then out of a £40m sale, Chelsea get £4m at best (20% of our profit of £20m) - so hardly a good chunk. With one year on his contract?

Whether for us or England he rarely puts a foot wrong and is still young and entitled to improveMany will disagree , but my feeling is , compared to others , such as ,Eze, Wharton, Mateta, Muñoz, Guehi, is the easiest to cope without. Yes he is a really good player and bound to be missed, but when he wasn’t there last season we seemed to cope OK. Obviously he has to be replaced but If Lerma, can cover for him as he has done, then a decent specialist in the position should soon fit in.
This is going to happen sooner or later however much of a ripple Marc’s leaving causes.
If he has got to go , and it seems ever more likely the club wants him gone , that’s exactly why Liverpool or anyone else should snap Parish’s hand off.Whether for us or England he rarely puts a foot wrong and is still young and entitled to improve

'Good chunk' is a non specific term. However, I'd say 20% is a good chunk. It's one fifth.Do we? If the 20% is true (as opposed to matching rights option) then out of a £40m sale, Chelsea get £4m at best (20% of our profit of £20m) - so hardly a good chunk.
Thats where my head is as well.
I know Marc is significantly more composed than say Lerma, but IMO we'll be ok without him. And with Richards and Lacroix, we've shown that we can bring people into that system and get it to work.
An interesting perspective. Thanks Houston.12 months in football is a lifetime and judging by the past year anything can happen.
I have changed my mind a few times on this subject (if people want to check previous posts), but now of the opinion it’s best to keep Marc (World Cup year) and risk him leaving for free next year.
Another year of consistency in the back 3. No money paid to Chelsea and time to work on replacement plan in January after Woody has got his checkbook ready
He only cost £18M and on £50k a week. He has truly been a cost effective member of our team?
I agree, a very frustrating player at times, yet capable of moments of magic. That said, if he were to leave for a sizable fee and a "bigger" club, I suspect he may be required to do more than he does for Palace. The grass etc...From my perspective. If Eze and Guehi are going to go, I wish they'd hurry up and do it. We need to be able to move on and plan as soon as possible.
Eze has great stats for last season, when he's good, he's incredible, but there were huge parts of the season where he wouldn't turn and run and would only pass backwards. At times he was incredibly frustrating to watch.
Guehi however will be missed especially in the dressing room. But I can see Lacroix stepping up to command in defence and we'll need to strengthen the squad there.
I'm not scared if they go, but I wish they'd hurry up.
I'm inclined to agree with this. All the 'will he, won't he' hoohah is beginning to become a little tiresome. From my perspective. If Eze and Guehi are going to go, I wish they'd hurry up and do it. We need to be able to move on and plan as soon as possible.

But not on Saturdays.Unpopular opinion.....Marc Guéhi is the week link in our defence 🙊
