Israel v Hamas

In 3 months it will be a levelled site and the inhabitants will be in a refugee camp in Egypt or Lebanon paid for by the UN and countries like GB and EU.
Plus tens of thousands will cross the channel in small boats and be welcomed into 4 star hotels and paid benefits by the UK, Ireland or both. Is Israel going to help foot the bill for this? Unlikely.

After DanH said I was a conspiracy theorist for saying institutions are leftist and anti-Israel and then someone explaining to him what an institution is (because he couldn't name any), he still hasn't come back to explain why I am incorrect on my assertion.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has just pulled US out of Unesco over ‘anti-Israel bias’. 'Heritage group supports divisive cultural and social causes that are out-of-step with America’s common sense policies, White House says.'

There are lots of examples of Unesco promoting a 'progressive left' worldview. Just like the UN, another garbage anti-Israel institution.

Can't see Egypt having the Gaza population in their country, they know too well what happens. Lebanoin has just started to recover from the Hezbollah take over so they won't be interested either.

Its pure distraction - being opposed to Israel’s actions is not a leftist position, it’s the view held by the vast majority of the world - framing it as some progressive/left position is just disingenuous.

Are the Daily Express also ‘promoting a progressive left worldview’?

Hamas did insist a few weeks ago that the USA bugger off with their food convoys.

What protests are going on with this?

Hang on, just because I haven’t had the time to reply to your post properly because one of us has a life and runs a business and has a family don’t go thinking you’re right. I’ll reply to your still ludicrous and lazy assertion (that someone else had to name your institutions for you) later when I get time.

Can you be more specific?

Even if it’s true, does a terrorist organisation insisting that mean the occupying force should allow children to starve to death..?

I agree the scenes in Syria are abhorrent - obviously you can’t view Gaza as acceptable and Syria as not, so presumably you’re also in support of that massacre.

The simple fact is that no government really cares if the place is flattened and all the inhabitants are decanted or die of hunger. If they did they would have intervened. This goes both for the west and neighbouring Muslim countries. The US as the highest nation is fully behind Israel. So why would it change its plans?

Only 33 dead of starvation yesterday. The numbers don't stack up to make it a genocide. And you have to remember, the dead children would probably have grown up to be Jew-hating terrorists.
The biggest crime is if all those tonnes of food aid Israel is withholding, isn't recycled into compost. That would be an environmental crime worth talking about.

I agree - governments of the world could give Israel motivation to change its plans, but so far have failed to do so.

Ah yes, the classic “I’m too busy with my incredibly important life to reply” defence. 😂

When all the primary relief agencies issue a joint statement calling for the immediate withdrawal of restrictions on them and the UN so that aid can reach those who will die without it you know this is very serious.

That has nothing to do with anti semitism or whether the IDF, or Hamas, are to blame. It’s just a humanitarian necessity which any decent person sees the need to respond to.

I sense a growing wave of disgust in Israel itself, never mind around the world, at the consequences of the policies of the current Israeli government. Let’s hope that brings about change.

Global opinion is not a moral compass. It follows misinformation, emotion and politics and has been wrong on many occasions. I'm old enough to remember the majority of the world supported the US-led invasion of Iraq.

I think we all agree that these deaths are tragic.

As are around 1,000 deaths this week in Syria as the attempt to ethnically cleanse the Druze continues.

I made no such claim.

Your argument is that people opposing Israel are doing so because of Marxist ideology, progressive institutions and a lack of critical thinking ability - that only makes sense if you're suggesting that the vast majority of people in this country, or indeed the planet, are progressive Marxists who lack critical thinking ability.

I think a much more likely scenario is that the small minority of people still actively supporting the slaughter and starvation of children, are so steeped in Zionist ideology, and so unable to see through blatant Israeli propaganda, that their view of those who oppose it is distorted beyond any logic or reason.

Not everyone who criticises Israel are Marxists but the loudest and most aggressive voices are coming from the 'progressive left' - academia, student unions, NGOs, the BBC, trade unions etc.

Israel is in a war - that Hamas started on October 7 - and sadly civilians die in every war. But especially when Hamas uses them as human shields.

Supporting Israel's right to defend itself and destroy Hamas doesn't mean cheering on civilian deaths. Just like opposing Hamas doesn't mean hating Palestinians.

Reducing a decades old conflict to 'Zionists kill innocent resistance' is not critical thinking but lazy, simplistic, moral posturing. You ignore the strategy of combat, facts and context which we've gone through a hundred times already on this thread.
