The bit in bold, according to Gov.org, it is 'Compulsory' to stay in education till you're 18. You can leave school at 16, but, must either go into Further Education, Apprenticeships etc . . .

And those on apprenticeships won’t earn enough to pay tax. Would this mean that 16 yo will be old enough to be tried as adults?

A 16 year old apprentice on the minimum wage of £7.55 working a 7 hour day and 5 day week would earn c.£13.7k, so they would. They would also pay some National Insurance.

They wouldn't pay much, but they would still be a taxpayer.

It has been shown in the past that youngsters will vote for Labour and I think that Starmer knows that he needs to do something to have a chance in the next election. Perhaps next he may withdraw the vote from pensioners as that should help him a bit too

Disenfranchise top rate taxpayers , people who pay school fees, farmers and anybody not getting universal credit
