What has caused the excitement is that the original pages showed Palace in the Europa League, then recently this was changed to Forest and yesterday was changed back to Palace so we are hypothesising on the reason behind that.

I saw that page ok but when you click on the europa league icon at the top it takes you through to another page specifically for the europa league. Then if you look in headlines and clic on 25/26 europa league phase as it stands you'll see Forest are in there.

Watching the highlights it appeared to me that in the last half hour against Le Harve Petrovic (Chelsea) was doing his best to concede a goal. When he failed Omobamidele (Forest) helped out by giving away a penalty and getting sent off in the last few minutes.
The last two results enable Chelsea to get into the Champions League and Lyon into the Europa League at Strasbourg’s expense. It also opened the door for Forest to shout ‘foul’ and claim our Europa League place. Very dodgy!

Same site (UEFA.com) gives different answers:-

Optimists - Open UEFA.com, hit the orange Europa League icon at the top, select Teams, and you’ll see Crystal Palace in the top row. If you had hit the green Conference League icon at the top, you would have seen Nottingham Forest.

Pessimists - Open UEFA.com, select the All Competitions dropdown. This sends you to a large menu. On the left hand side is a large button saying UEFA rankings. Select this. Select Access List (men’s) from the options at the top. There is a dropdown where you choose the competition. If you select UEFA Europa League, you will see Nottingham Forest at the top of the page. If you select UEFA Conference League, you will see Crystal Palace.

One point that Parish made in the interview with Lineker is that there are some in UEFA who want cup winners not to have a gateway to Europe, presumably to exclude snaller clubs that occasionally 'get lucky' and win a domestic cup competition.
This certainly helps out of form top clubs that can still make Europe with a lower than usual league placing.
It helps to preserve Europe as a plaything for the so called big clubs.

It’s also possible that Chelsea’s win at Forest on the last day of the season was no accident. In the end, they didn’t need to win because both Newcastle and Villa underperformed that day. Could somebody have said to Forest, “if you lose to Chelsea, we’ll make sure you get Europa League.”

However, I haven’t noticed anything dodgy about Chelsea’s goal that day.
