El Hadji Diouf

Shame. He looked excellent against England and his attributes seemed perfect for GlasnerBall.

Oh well, let’s hope the Croatian lad is better!
Tine will tell who is the better prospect or right for the team. Chilwell was perfect because he knew his role and helped Tyrick develop into a better player.

I personally feel Mitchell and Sosa will work better within the Glasner system.

We also saved 20M for other positions. I hope I’m right?

Feels like this is the reason. They were playing hardball with Diouf, and Sosa was available for a modest fee.

Diouf was undoubtably the better prospect, but sometimes you need to make the sensible decision. Especially in a position like LB where we have such a constant performer in TM.

Good signing for them.
Perhaps. They've paid over the odds for a player coming directly from the Czech League. The previous record (according to Transfermarkt) for a direct transfer from the Czech league was 14.5m euros paid by B. Dortmund for Tomas Rosicky back in 2001!

The fact that there hasn't been a higher one in the last 24 years until now surely says something.

I have to say, I'm disappointed we missed out on this lad. As said, time will tell, but I think he'll be a great signing for Spam.

Looks like again we mess about trying to low ball people they call our bluff so we miss out and what do Palace do go get bargain basement player who is prob never even going to compete for starting spot.

This is typical Palace under SP I can why Tex was getting frustrated at times.

I think he'll be fine - however, it's going to be in a poor side.

God forbid we look for value in the transfer market!

Obviously the better approach is just to pay whatever asking price is set for any player we have an interest in - that seems sensible.

If a club states a price that is around what they want it's a waste of every ones time to keep low balling people which is what we keep doing and we end up later on paying more or missing out.

People used to blame DF I don't believe it's him it's SP.

Look how poor our window has been so far.

Nonsense - look how many deals get done below asking prices and release clauses. The concept of negotiation surely isn’t that difficult to grasp.

We had an idea what we thought this guy was worth. His club thought they could get more and were proved right - I’m sure you don’t think every club signs every player they have an interest in.

We have demonstrated some of the best recruitment in the country over the last few years, and certainly far better than that demonstrated by West Ham.

The fee they are paying for this guy is more than we paid for Wharton, Olise or Eze, and let’s be absolutely honest that none of us have even watched him play barring an end of season friendly against England.

He may well be. I'm not suggesting he's a bad player just that the fee wanted for him was more than we were prepared to risk for a player from that league. We don't have a cheap 60,000 plus capacity stadium that gets filled every game like Spammers do and we don't have their kind of finances. They don't seem to have used the Rice money that well given the current state of the squad. We can't afford to be that blasé.

I heard West Ham are pretty skint this year.
