I can see a poor start again this season and a struggle to match last season's achievements

Omens are not good - second lowest investment so far in new signings, at least two of our key stars odds on to leave (Eze and Guéhi), no equivalent replacements will be interested, due to the uncertainty of European football, and if the appeal is successful, it will be too late.

What is the best and worst outcome? Fortunately, we have a quality manager who can make the best of it but his patience may be tested quid pro quo.

Ideally the futures of Guehi and Eze will be resolved before the club go off to the training camp.
Otherwise it has the potential to be like last pre season which Glasner was justifiably unhappy about.

If it's lastminute.com again and replacements arrive with no opportunity to integrate with teammates we face a slow start again.

Furthermore, I hope the speculation around Munoz, JPM and Wharton is just that.
I'm conscious though that Munoz is likely to have a release clause in his new contract and that JPM shows no signs of accepting a new contract.

The noise around Europe is grabbing the attention currently, but then there's the little matter of Glasner's contract which only has a year to run.

Parish has a very busy 'in box' this summer.

I reckon Glasner will stay put but we should sell Guehi now and grab some decent wedge for him and to be honest some goes for Eze.
If the management have an ounce of brains they'll already have replacements in mind and this would finance the plans.
I truly ain't too fussed about the European thing, either of the competitions, we should concentrate on league and domestic trophies.
We'll be alright and hopefully improve our league position provided we sign quality players to help the boys who stay with us.

Best points total in the PL and FA Cup is going to be very tough to beat. Which team has ever had best seasons in consecutive years
The Europa debacle, failure to replace Freedman and inability to sign Guehi and JPM to new contracts do not augur well. We need Glasner to stay and a significant improvement in the younger players

Guehi was always going to refuse a new deal. To call it an inability on Palace's behalf is a little harsh I think. If Guehi doesn't get the move he wants, he'll stay put and run down his contract.

As for Mateta ;

Crystal Palace are, meanwhile, in talks with Mateta over signing a new contract, according to BBC Sport.

It is believed that a full agreement is still to be reached, but it is understood that a deal is now close.

How can you be sure Guehi was always going to refuse a new deal? He might have accepted a pay increase with an extended contract including a release clause, a la Olise. If he categorically said he was going to run down his contract, why were we bothering negotiating with Newcastle?
Hope the Mateta news transpires

'Liverpool have held talks with Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, 28, with the Frenchman meeting with the club's representatives in Paris.'

The above is in BBC Sport today.

I'm not trying to be awkward, merely pointing out the contradictory nature of reporting - often from the same news outlet.

The only thing that seems clear is that JPM still hasn't signed a new contract which inevitably leads to speculation on his future.

Well as long as nothing is sent to info@cpfc we'll be ok.

Yes, I was aware of that Liverpool report - and yes the same source says a new Palace deal is close !

I was told a year ago that MG wasn't agitating for a move. Also told that his preferred destination when he does go is Liverpool....as I told that mouthy Geordie when he came on HOL last summer !

I'm not sure we were actually negotiating with Newcastle. We set a price and they made a number of bids that didn't come up to that price.

It has been reported that MG will run his contract down if he doesn't get the move he wants. The Liverpool situation is complicated as Konate is in the same boat contractually. If Konate stays then Guehi isn't an automatic starter - and he needs to be playing to retain his England place.

Yes, hopefully JP will sign and not get his head turned by Liverpool.

Yes, not an ideal situation, 31 days to go before we start, we don’t know what European tournament we are in, and who, of any players will go, my guess, Guehi and Eze stay, Mateta goes.

Given Mateta is training in London and not allowed to talk to other clubs this story seems unlikely. Possible his agent is drumming to force palace hand in contract negotiations

Mateta is going nowhere without a silly bid. Liverpool can’t seem to stump up the money for Guehi. Mateta would be unwise to join Liverpool as won’t be first choice and harm any possible chance of going to the world cup

I hope not, key player.
