Eze to spurs?

If Arsenal is prepared to pay £68m (and what does the ordinary Joe know about how these deals are done?), then I would imagine that given his ability and his age that is about right. Take the money.

That said, every season we watch as the middling clubs sell their best players to the top clubs with the result that, guess what?, the top clubs remain the top clubs. Funny Old Game. Also desperately boring.

Stato or just facts?

Obviously we can get someone for less money (or use Franca or Esse) but will they be as effective?

Almost certainly not, and i still remember Marco Gabbiadini being signed to replace Ian Wright.

Why would you choose Gabbiadini? Do you not think we’ve moved on from that sort of deal.

Of course we can replace with someone more effective. Eze is not a 38 game a season player. He shows up for maybe 30% of games and that is 30% of the uninjured portion of his season. Great player, yes, exciting to watch, yes, frustrating as hell, yes, replaceable, definitely.

You are also forgetting that we acquired both Olise and Eze for far less than £50m together so to say it’s not doable is clearly wrong.

I think the Gabbiadini signing as a replacement for Wright has some valid parallels. One being that when key players leave, a team cannot expect to play in the same way.

Gabbiadini's strength was not running in behind and stretching defences like IW. The team did not adapt and he/we suffered.

If Eze leaves we likely will need to find new ways to play with whoever comes in. There is always a black box element with that sort of transition.

With Elanga (23) and Kudos (24), both under long term contracts going for 55M. It feels like the market for Ebs (27) could be thin at 68M.

Cast offs from Arsenal/Liverpool etc. today add little value to Glasner, so I'm expecting Eze to remain in place for next season unless Bayern's need dictates an additional body in midfield.

Elanga was sold for just £16m in 2023, recently considered to be worth £42m and has now been sold for £55m.

I agree the market for Eze would be thinner because of the price however being a home born player pushes that price up and of course we are talking about a release clause as opposed to a market value. If someone wants him then they will only get him cheaper than the release clause if we are looking to sell.

The long term injury to Musiala may push Bayern into the market, but whether it’s at that price level we will have to wait and see. We most certainly don’t want any more of Arsenal’s cast offs having already suffered with Sanogo, Lokonga, Holding and to a certain extent Eddie Nketiah who is unable to hold down a regular starting spot due to his rather unproductive, albeit hardworking performances.

I personally think it’s a good time to sell Eze, however it is most definitely not a concern if he stays.

I can’t see Glasner accepting PL cast offs. I doubt he had much say in Nketiah as that had Freedman written all over it. I would expect any replacement to come from the continent.
I agree that we have to cash in. Look at Mark G - drop in value of £30m due to length of contract remaining. Was his presence last season worth £30m plus his wages?

Harry Kane and Declan rice were in the last year of their contracts before going for 100 million.

We won the FA cup. Can’t put a price on that. Marc was instrumental in helping us win it. Agree with your comments on OG

Much as I get your point, I’d have to say yes it was because he was part of an fa cup winning team. I’ll turn it round and say could we have won the cup without him?

I never said it isn't doable but it is clearly a risk. All club's make panic buys and Palace are no different. Clearly you are never 100% sure a transfer will succeed, but we have made a number of mistakes under Dougie, despite some obvious successes.

Ahamada at £10m was never going to be the holding midfielder we needed alongside Doucoure and it appears we now can't get rid of him. I would also put Nketiah in that category. A player who cannot hold the ball up and is very much a box only striker was always going to struggle in our formation and could never play in one of the wide positions.

Eze can do things other players can't. He can turn a game (e.g. Fulham Q/finals) , score wonder goals (Villa semi) and score important goals (City in the final).

The only player i have seen with a similar USP in the championship in recent years is Jonathan Rowe at Norwich and he has struggled in Marseille. These players are few and far between and cost a lot. Despite clearly having the skills Eze and Olise both had average first seasons as they adjusted to the Prem.

As i said, maybe Esse or Franca will step up, but they are clearly not at the level of Eze.

According to clickbait, this is the Arsenal player…

He has played multiple games for Arsenal’s first team, against Man United on a pre-season tour, and against Bolton Wanderers in an EFL Cup tie!

The replies from our fans are a good read.

(By the way, it’s a no from me!)
At the risk of being "sizeist" the prospect of a 5'5" fullback isn't that enticing.

this new focus on age is quite annoying IMHO. The 'Chelsea' model is clearly not working, to date.

Eze turned 27 a week or so ago and Kudus will be 25 in a few weeks, so there is a 2 year gap between them. Kudus was a shadow of the player from the previous season. To pay £55m on him is a massive gamble, regardless of his age.

Eze is at his peak and will add to any team, if he were to move. £60m upfront seems a reasonable price in today's price madness. Similar to Harry Kane, who i think was almost 30 when he was sold for c£100m. Bayern bought a player at his peak who could hit the ground running, as has been proved
