US Politics

Guys have we not drifted off topic.

There are lots of interesting things happening in the US at the moment e.g. Saudi Arms deal, lifting of sanctions against Syria. If this is just going to be just sniping then I wont bother looking at this thread any more.

Trump is on topic surely, I agree lots of interesting things going on, getting Syria somehow from failed state to viable would be good for the region. There is a glimmer that the Abraham accords can be properly resurrected and built upon. Iran watching closely .......

It’s all he has! I have him on ignore now. One of only two who I feel are just not worth bothering with.

There’s more than two. They feel like they have to gang up together for strength in numbers as none of them have any real merit of their own.

Wonder which one of the free speech champions reported my hurty words.

I hope when you read this back, you will have to admit this is a ridiculous statement, you know little about people on here, in most part just your perception of them.

Tbf you actually do Spider, and I have a lot of respect for you for doing so and it’s interesting to learn from your experience.

There are plenty of others on here who act like experts in everything but unwilling to provide any credentials. So can’t be taken seriously, for me.

Thank you but, imo, you did become somewhat irate earlier and did step over the line. Hope you take this in the manner it is intended
Both ways?

I don’t feel like it’s any worse than the daily abuse Wisbech gets.

He seems to have a tougher skin than others on here that are happy to give it but don’t seem to be able to take.

If this drug cost reduction works then Trump's next act should be to force the insurance industry to cut their heathcare premiums as they will be making savings which should be passed on to the patient.
Agree, a huge amount of medical spend is admin and price gouging and gigantic frauds in over charging and prescribing of drugs in cahoots with patients , much less so in operations and procedures. The insurance companies simply need to make a return acceptable to shareholders, perhaps twice non risk deposit rate.

It is not insurance as such, the risk is very well known and the claims are attritional, it's basically a very expensive processing exercise.

It's quite interesting at the moment.

A lot going on under the bonnet so to speak.

Trump seems to, or at least it's being reported as such, have fallen out with Netanyahu over the next steps in Gaza. Big money from the Arabs seems at least in part to relate to this as the Saudis and Trump have always got on and they are tightening bonds.....This puts a Netanyahu preference to steamroll Gaza into some doubt if the US are starting to hold their nose.

Interesting....also a bit sick considering these policy whims are life and death to people.

If it is the Saudis who ultimately thwart Netanyahu (not that I think they will initially, because a lack of success in Gaza is probably prison for him) then it's also somewhat ironic considering that the Saudis and Qataris aren't friends of the Palestinians.....but it would be a big win status wise in the region for them.

As they say you win more with honey than vinegar.

Money into America is Trump's jive at the moment and he's at full pelt, like a door to door salesman with the big players, Saudis, India.....I suspect that he'll try to pull Russia away from China (which would be a massive achievement considering the mess that now exists). What happens with these China negotiations is obviously a big deal.

On the policy shift with Israel (if it's genuine) It's probably a fifty fifty issue within the Republican base.....though obviously the Congress are more Israeli inclined. But whatever the reason Netanyahu appears to have really annoyed Trump.

Yep, they are joined at the hip at the moment and from their perspective I don't blame them because the real power player America has two parties with considerably different perspectives on foreign policy. So commitment to set paths is betting the house.

From my perspective I hope for de-escalation in terms of both the military rhetoric and this direction of travel between the US and China for future conflict. I think China need to open up their economy at least in terms of fairness, compared to how they take advantage of the open western system but close their own.....somewhat ironic really as America are becoming more protectionist while asking China to start opening up.

Will that happen.....I doubt it but I hope for trade progress, de-escalation and measured language.

Bill Maher this week had as a guest one David Hogg who is 25 and is a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. He's not short of an opinion and could have quite a future in American politics.

China and India both consistently put barriers in the way of their financial services sectors, SOP in China was to allow a foreign insurer to establish a JV, train all the staff then find a reason to kick them out and the JV partner would pick up 100% at as knockdown price. Also the foreign companies had to operate in specific cities or geographical area. It was self inflicted, 20 years ago insurers were fighting each other to get a pin in the China map.

An Australian insurer got involved in a JV with the PLA in western China, how do you think that ended.

In February 2021, Hogg announced that he and progressive tech entrepreneur William LeGate would start a company to compete with MyPillow, whose CEO Mike Lindell has spread unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud as a staunch supporter of former President Trump. Hogg announced the new venture in a series of tweets.

The company name was later announced as Good Pillow

In early April 2021, Hogg announced in another series of tweets that he had resigned, released all his interest in the company to LeGate, and was leaving the venture

In fairness, you can also lump yourself in that group.

I'd be interested to know what your expertise is in because you often come across as a troll on here.

I'm not an expert in anything, but I read a lot and try to cite sources with my posts, trying to avoid hyperbolic statements.

What you're guilty of is trying to predict the future - and it always fits your narrative. Wisdom would teach you that markets bounce back and recession predictions are often incorrect.

I hate to break it to you but so called experts get things wrong all the time!

Speak as you find and I thought he made some interesting points. It was nice to see someone younger who didn't just spout the usual rhetoric.

It remains to be seen if Trump's drug price reduction plan will work but if it does the healthcare insurers will fight tooth and nail not to drop their premiums so that is the next dragon to slay. Hopefully then it will make life easier for most Americans.
