Labour Party politics

Ah yes because the way to win people back is to make them more tax than the already record highs they're paying now.

I suspect a push against Starmer is beginning to build. But with the Net Zero lunacy definitely on the way out rather than tax hikes. Labour simply cannot go into the next election with it as a policy. Need to ditch it ASAP.

And that is going to cause even more rifts but I cannot really see much electoral damage in that for them beyond reduced majorities in urban seats.

Both Labour and the Tories are in immense trouble now thanks to Reform. Labour are certainly in a better position to see off the threat but as things stand, not sure they have the IQ bandwidth to grasp that. And they do have to grasp it because they literally, as things stand, having nothing meaningful to counter Reform with. They are not going to do anything to stop the illegals showing up, they cannot raise taxes.

Hence why ditching Net Zero is the only option open to them in terms of proclaiming they are listening.

When they raise taxes all Reform need to do is explain that it's used for illegal immigrants. Whether true, partially true or entirely false won't really matter. Are there any actual politicians in the Labour party who understand anything of modern politics?

What Labour will be doing is, for example, lowering tax thresholds or raising NI now (I can't see them actually raising income tax but could be wrong), then six months before the election reverse the raises and call them tax cuts. We've all seen it countless times before.

Haigh is too thick to know what existential means, her opinion IMHO is worthless

Labour have mismanaged the economy putting in policies that see the flight of tax revenue and discourage growth. They will blame the previous govt for ever, UK is in a terrible situation that will only get worse before next GE

Brexit increased legal immigration from 200,000 plus to 700.000 plus (2023).

Farage, actually.

😎
No it didn't.
Brexit is just a portmanteau.

Politicians, both Labour and Tory, have allowed immigration to increase.

Vote Reform.

There are rumblings about net zero, but unless Starmer gets rid of Ed Miliband and replace him with someone less insane, nothing will change.

Ed Miliband is very popular with the labour party faithful. If the Independent is to believed, they said Miliband is the most popular cabinet minister among the labour party members.

Has Starmer got the cajones to sack Miliband and incur the wrath of the labour faithful? I very much doubt he has.

India have just hit Pakistan with some air strikes. Pakistan deeply despises India and won't think twice about retaliating. India, who equally deeply despises Pakistan will retaliate to the retaliation, and so it goes on and on, until someone on either side decides to lob a nuclear weapon over the border...

If that does happen, there won't be much of India left to trade with.

But at least the refugees will not have to pay NI contributions for three years

The new labour government increases immigration from the indian sub-continent as their predecessors the tories did in their post brexit delusion.

🙄
But you have omitted to mention the NI issue, which the Tories refused to back. Maybe you weren’t aware of it, as it was omitted from the UK press release. Why could that be? 🤔

It’s also deeply misunderstood. The UK has bilateral social security agreements with most major nations that allows those temporarily working in the other country to stay in their home system (usually for up to 2 years but some up to 5). Anyone on a local contract pays NI from day 1.

There was already an exemption for Indian nationals (and anyone else we don’t have an agreement with) for the first 52 weeks they are here.

Likewise, any UK national carries on paying NIC when they temporarily work overseas rather than pay into the local system.

The reason that India pushed for it is because their Provident Fund contributions continue throughout regardless. This was creating a double social security charge after the 52 week exemption expired.

Indian nationals working in the UK will still be subject to income tax on their earnings while working here (unless exempt under the double tax treaty).

All this is is just more faux outrage from people that don’t actually understand the detail. But when has that ever stopped someone working themselves up into a furore for no reason?
