Summer Transfers 2025 (rumours and incomings)

You have to feel that Guehi signs a new contract or has to be sold, and if Eze's 68m release clause is activated he has the choice to go, but i would advise him to only go abroad, Olise style, don't become another Grealish, only Arsenal is a possible place for him in England, but i doubt they would want him.
We have another year to work on Mateta, and there is no chance Wharton will be sold with 4 years left on his contract, in 2 years, who knows what he could be worth.
Transfers in, i like the ipswich pair, Jacob Greaves and Leif Davis, probably 40/45m for the pair, and if Eze goes, maybe Semenyo?, only on 48k at Bournemouth.

Left-footed he can play primarily at left-back but also at left wing-back and in central defence.
Excellent delivery at set-pieces and takes free kicks over a wall.
Scott Parker signed him in loan for Bournemouth, Kieran McKenna signed him for Ipswich for I believe £1.2 Mill.
He has provided a lot of assists.

He is the most likely to go.

Why would we let him go with four years on his contract, his fee will rise and rise, he is too young to go to City, he has only played 19 league games this year, he is only 21, and is not a stamina man, needs to develop physically, Man City would expect 45/50 games, he isn't ready for the move yet.
 
If Guehi was going to sign a new contract it would have been done by now.
I’m resigned to him leaving and he will be difficult to replace.
Captain, rarely injured, incredibly consistent, great temperament and excellent with the ball at his feet for a defender.

It’s concerning that there’s no development on Mateta when there have been ongoing contractual discussions this season .
He supposedly has 2 years remaining (including the one year option), but if he doesn’t sign a new contract the club will have a decision to make in the summer.
They may elect to cash in on him as there appears to be a lot of interest in him.
Goalscoring centre forwards are always in high demand.

I’m sure we’d all like to see this team kept together (and strengthened), but it’s unlikely to happen.
Nonetheless, our track record on signings is on the whole good, so I’m sure we’ll find a few more gems.

Oh, of course I might be wrong. It is all spec.

However, Pep has chosen to big him up, prepare the way. If they offer £90M (which they can) he's gone.

It is about this time every year - and since we have been up - that the media has sold half our team.

There are "advanced discussions", "prices agreed" and so on but, come September - other than Olise and Wan-Basaka - they are still here.

(In this respect, could Guehi be the new Zaha?)

Losing only 2 players we really wanted to keep in a decade is a good retention record. And it will only get better if we can secure top half and a berth on the SS Europa league..

We really have to ignore all this click bait nonsense.

It's simple really. If we want to progress as a club, we need to keep our best players.
To do that, we need to offer the wages and show the ambition that allows that to happen.
That will increase our chances of success, and with that, increase our chances of keeping our best talent.

It's really just speculating to accumulate. The club has to spend to achieve success and therefore have more to spend. We are doing it with the new stand, but it is equally important if not more so for the squad.
The rules on spending are making it harder and are holding back the clubs outside the big club cabal.

It is not allowing real competition.

Parish has done a great job of building a squad under difficult conditions but losing Eze, Guehi or Mateta would be disastrous for our progress.

If we win the cup, you'd think he may be open to staying and captaining the European push. you may not get him to sign a long deal, but potentially a new 2 year on a bit more cash and delay this situation by a year

But how do you convince a Mateta or a Guehi to sign a new deal..?

Mateta's agent is in his ear; you're 28, last chance at a big move, stock has never been higher... I can get you £200k a week and a £5m signing bonus with Club X.

What do we do?

I think it speaks more to how bad our recruitment has been for most of our time in the Prem, certainly from a resale POV.
 
I think Eze and Guehi will both depart this summer. Hopefully we'll hold onto JPM for another year, but his form has simply been too good for anyone looking for a new Striker (ManU or Arse?) to ignore, There could be some silly bids flying round, domestically and from abroad.

Eze is the most Spursy player we own. He's somewhat of a luxury player who'll fit right into to their bunch of sublime-one-day-invisible-the-next team of misfits. I can see Spurs going all out to get him - but I really hope if he does go, he goes elsewhere. He needs to play in a team that befits him. Not sure who that is.
Wharton won't leave, he needs a bit more development imho. but someone may try to get him on the cheap because of that (rather than wait for him to reach an inevitable 100m pricetag!).

As for replacements;
We've been nursing/grooming/(and praying for) Franca to fill the Eze role. we also have Esse waiting for an Opportunity in the wings.
Nketiah, Devenney and with Mustapha performing well in the youth setup if JPM leaves
Riad has surely got to be eyed to slip into Guehi's position, lets hope he can get and stay fit.

So buying ready made replacements may not happen. Although we still look light at CB, LWB, and a striker if JPM does go. Would love to see someone step up from the academy, but we all know that rarely happens.

I can't see any marquee signings, but I'd imagine we'd try to strengthen by nicking players from relegated clubs, or some lesser known foreigner. Replacements need to hit the ground running, and in OG's system that means understanding the system - as we saw at the beginning of this season, so much better to promote those already in it than buy in. The question is whether OG thinks any are ready to step up.

The short answer is you have to pay them a wage and show the ambition that will keep them. Unfortunately, if you want to be a big club then you have to act like one.

Right now, our wage bill reflects our league position. We will need to double it if we want to be a top 8 club. There is no guarantee, of course, but we will only struggle if we continue to sell when we don't want to. I would have three or four players that are paid outside of the wage structure.
Right now that would be Guehi, Mateta, Eze and Wharton.
We have already tied down Munoz for a while.

If it was as simple as just paying massive wages, everyone would be doing it - the reality is that most clubs can't afford to.

Doubling our wage bill would have us spending a similar amount to Liverpool on salaries - according to Deloitte, Liverpool's revenues are around 700m Euros a year. I think ours is less than 200m Euros.

Can't run a club like that.

In fairness, it's been very good over the last few years.

But from promotion through to when Vieira joined... very poor. We found value pretty well, but that was about it.

It wouldn't. It would be something like Aston Villa.

Correction. You were correct according to the attached.

It would in fact put us just above Liverpool who are fifth in the wages table.
Something closer to West Ham might be a more realistic ambition, but we need the kind of revenue that a bigger stadium and more success will bring to sustain a higher level.
