Bournemouth match thread

I think that we finally know that Hughes and Wharton is our best midfield combination.
In defence, Lerma can do a job if necessary but we're still better with the starting three.
We've got no answers on Chilwell - Mitchell wasn't bad.
We look like we need more from the front three currently.
I'll say one thing for Nketiah - he gives a big effort. Kamada has been more involved, probably very slightly better every game he plays. Slightly.
Hughes was actually back to his best. Wharton not quite.
Eze quite poor again but did track back well so fair play to him for adding that to his game. Mateta below his best unfortunately. He'll come good though. Sarr heavily involved - again tracked back great but perhaps wasn't helped out enough by enough movement off the ball of the others. We need Sarr close to Mateta and Eze creating by the looks of things. At least Wharton can be creative too - though both can be pretty wayward too. Plus the odd cross by Sarr or Munoz, even Mitchell. We have more outlets than we started the season with - probably a big reason for our recent form and the difference to Roy's side.
I liked Henderson's long kicks - nearly works to Sarr to run on to. Our long throws didn't seem to work but at least they look dangerous and make the opposition get back in their area.

I didn't think we were too bad. Not great, but we didn't look like conceding and we were dangerous on the break. We mixed up set pieces and gave it a shot. Bournemouth weren't great, 11 on 11, I'd have bet on us to nick it.
They were sloppier than us. I'm finding I'm watching these teams fighting for Europe and lauded by the press, thinking they're pretty poor really. Anyone can be beaten this season - no one's actually great. Arsenal and Liverpool are probably slightly better than the rest.
We didn't have one shot on target the whole game and you seem to think we weren't too bad?

After two heavy defeats our team will have been lacking in confidence and as Glasner said in the post-match presser, this was clearly evident in our first half performance yesterday.

However, the red card (and halftime talk?) seemed to galvanize the players and we held Bournemouth relatively easily in the second half with Henderson hardly having to make a serious save and our defence gaining confidence at the half went on.

Overall, we came out of that game with more credit than Bournemouth who had previously scored more goals away from home than all other PL clubs apart from Liverpool but against us looked fairly innocuous in the final third thanks to our defensive performance.

The Referee makes 'Split-second' decisions in a fast-moving game under intense pressure.
In the final analysis NO two incidents are the same, there can be nuances and whilst I appreciate the calls for 'Consistency' this can never be achieved 100% when subjectivity is involved.
The ref being a long time Brighton season ticket holder might add to a level of bias.

intervening in Eze’s free kick goal in his first PL game might have been considered rookie nerves but his intervention in getting Richard’s sent off in his second might offer a different perspective?

I can assure you I am certainly NOT "Trolling".
I have articulated my views on the subject of 'Mark Clattenburg' in-depth on HOL and I see no need to keep re-iterating my sentiments.
Such re-iteration will resemble a gramophone record stuck in the groove and I will now refrain from responding to the Clattenburg detractors.Thank You.
Oh stfu TROLLEY. It IS you.

Being honest. I thought it was a good call by the ref to not book the Bournemouth player for a second yellow outside their box. I thought that's okay I'm sure he will let us off a second yellow and it doesn't ruin the game.

Then he goes and sends off Richards a minute later for something barely even a foul and I was lost for words. Game completely ruined for everyone. A bad advert for premier league football.

like it wasn't even a dangerous two footed leg breaker, wasting time, kicking the ball away or back chatting to the ref. Surely the ref should give a verbal warning. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He really isn’t, however he is a s*** ref

Question for Willo:
If you honestly believe there is no big club bias and refs do not favour big name players, can you explain why TAA did not get booked for removing his shirt after scoring?
I await your defence of that decision

I have come to a conclusion that there are four types of poor referee. These are ‘inexperienced’ ‘incompetent’ ‘biased’ and ‘corrupt’. Some referees show signs of more than one type. Barrott shows some signs of two and three with his Northern roots, Brighton heritage and the high number of fouls and cards he gives against Palace. His average across four matches is 15 fouls and 4 yellows against our season average of 11 and 2.2. He has had enough EPL matches to gain experience in complete contrast to his South Coast counterpart, Tim Robinson, who was promoted at the same time but gets far fewer matches.

Barrott’s error in the Brentford match, like that of Darren England’s at Man City, shows a worrying similarity those in Clattenburg’s Cup Final performance i.e. blowing up early to prevent Palace scoring. It would be nice if he is given a few years rest from our matches.

the sad about all this, everyone agrees there were very clear and serious mistakes made by the referee in this match. The sad thing is because it was two yellows = Red we cannot appeal the one match ban that automatically applies after such a dismissal, whereas if it were straight red we could appeal, that does not seem right to me as it was a clear and obvious error.

Did ref watch bother saying anything? Is it worth asking anyway.

Yes! First item too. Even Gallagher conceded both cards were wrongly awarded; he didn't even try to defend either.
He did waffle a bit about what a good ref Barrott is, he referred to him as "the future". Not ours you'd hope.
