US Politics

So Donald tackles the US debt crisis OK. Let's look at the last three presidents:

Obama US increase in debt $8.3 trillion over 8 years 2009-2017

Trump " " " $8.2 trillion over 4 years 2017-2020

Biden " " " $6.2 trillion over 4 years 2020-2024

Oh dear his recoird ain't so hot is it...... But he has kept his promise to impose tariffs, so that's OK then.

Once again, seemingly no recognition that the debt crises has to be dealt with.....just a passive aggressive 'oh look well he did it'.....Yeah, and that was criticised by me and plenty of people at the time. Since that time it's that much worse.

Once again....because no one is dealing with this.....Debt repayment is 15 percent of Government spending and rising.

You can't just let the percentage of government spending on debt continue to rise.

Crickets.

As for tariffs.....If Trump is wrong he will pay for it won't he.

It was always going to happen anyway with or without Trump. Somthing had to be done about the debt build up in the US. Trump has the stones to act on it.

The Democrats talked about tariffs for years and about how everyone is taking advantage of the US without actually doing anything.

Nowhere have I ever said the debt crisis wasn't important. It's the faith in Trump shown in this thread
that I'm arguing about. The thread is "US Politics" after all.

You literally just made a post relating to the debt crises without providing a solution....and have nothing but criticism of Trump (again, without offering any solution).

In Trump's second term he's actually attempting to tackle American debt with DOGE and Tariffs in an attempt to bring more manufacturing back.....the success or failure of which only time will show....While you appear to think success is measured by whatever this week's lefty commentators think.

Again, you criticise without offering any solution.....Yet I've literally shown you the figures showing why inaction isn't a serious option....It's just lying to the American people (which Biden did) and kicking the can down the road and making it harder and harder for any incoming president.

Your entire footprint on Hol appears to be just whining about Trump or posters....So why expect anyone on the right to care about your opinion? Try touching grass.

Interesting video highlighting the breakdown in trust and social cohesion between the generations in America and the west generally.

The fall of social conservativism within societies and the rise of individualism into its place was very much a boomer ideal and the concept of loyalty between generations has suffered as a result. We have far more fractured families, duty has become a forgotten word and the idea of the social contract just can't be relied upon anymore....everything is a transaction.

I've said it many times....the ancient proverb that, 'a society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they will never sit in' runs true through the ages'.....The cost of breaking this is....in my mind uncalculatable.

I won't go over how this happened....Anyone with brains knows.

I think Asmongold's video here hits upon these inter-generational tensions and breakdowns.

Another TDS sufferer. 😀

It’s true.

Apply it to the need to tackle climate change and reflect on how Trump’s current behaviour achieves that. That’s how it isn’t happening!

It might be the perceived wisdom but not every economist agrees. What matters more is the ability to pay for your debt, so the rate at which you borrow and why you do so must be considered.

Borrowing to pay for current expenditure is unwise. Borrowing in a crisis is a necessary evil. Borrowing to invest in things that generate returns in excess of the cost of doing so is wise.

So to just demand that the debt be lessened is simplistic. It might be better to borrow more now if in future it enables you to reduce it faster.

Trump is taking a sledgehammer approach, using it one day, then trying to pick up some of the pieces the next. How can anyone plan anything on that basis? Most will just pause until things get clearer. Would you invest in a factory in the USA now, without knowing whether what’s been announced will last? The proof of that came earlier with another partial U turn but with the threat of a restoration in 90 days.

Trust has been broken and trust is the corner stone of every enduring relationship.
