I don’t think the defensive players are great but I really can’t see how you can say our defensive shape is good. It just isn’t and it regularly leaves our back three exposed.
There is nothing wrong with anything the team do collectively. Thats the work of the coaches. Our defence is not exposed. Timber does a great job in front of them when fit. Same with Hughes and Doucoure.
You can protect our defence up to a point but if they're crap they're crap

Sage must think he is jinxed at our club.
How can one legislate for the Henderson mistake last night, the Canvot OG at Fulham, the one-in-a million shot from over 50 yards at Brighton ? The Mateta,Disasi and Wharton red-cards.The fact that Mateta and Sarr, nearly 40 goals between them last season have hardly featured. The injuries to Tomiyasu and Riad in the defence and Henderson also missed games.
It has been a 'Bumpy ride' for him.

I probably would but I prefer my life in the Cotswolds with my horses and dog. I don’t want to be a chairman of a football club. And tbh I really wish Steve Parish the best, because that would mean the best for Palace, I just think he took his eye off the ball this season. And things happen fast in football, look at Leicester and West Ham. We could be next.
Leicester and West Ham are very badly run clubs. Palace are not. One of two things will happen.
Sage will turn things around and we'll move up the table. Sage will be sacked, a new manager will come in and eventually (when we have rectified the awful defence in January) we'll (you guessed it) move up the table.
If you dont believe this to be the case you dont know Parish and as a result have clearly not been watching this club over the last 13 years in this division. When needs must he has always acted in the past. If Parish deems it necessary he wont hesitate to act this time either.

Very true. Glasner had no such poor luck and still lost plenty of games

If one accepts the premise that it's nothing to do with Sage's defensive setup and everything to do with the errors/ lack of quality of the defenders, then it means that until January ( the transfer window) we are stuck with this and we will continue to see the alarming concession of goals and throwing away of points.

I don't accept the premise, and expect a new manager to come in and put in a structure to suit the squad, defend wide areas and set pieces, and be more competitive in midfield.
We've seen Pulis and Hodgson take the same players available to the previous managers, stop the chaos and provide an organised setup geared to achieving results.
The experiment with Sage has not been a happy experience for him or the club and the sooner we move on the better.
This looks like being a season of struggle and I don't believe Sage is the right guy to steer us .

What a complete pile of crap, you are making a fool of yourself, its so easy to play against a Palace side that never alters tactics, just put the ball behind our wing back, and the defence tumbles like a house of cards, surely, even you can see that, jeez.

This is not like when Hodgson or Pulis came in when we had capable defenders that only needed guidance. We dont. In my opinion nothing will change until January when we can buy, regardless of who the manager is

And by January it could be too late as we could be well and truly marooned at the bottom, especially as it will probably be the end of January.
I agree, the CB’s we’ve got now are just not good enough whoever’s in charge. Although admittedly it might improve a bit if we can close some of those gaps that appear like the Grand Canyon in front of them

Our centre backs are not as good as last year or the several years before. That much is clear, and most teams who lost Guehi and Lacroix within a calendar year would feel the effects at least as much as we have.

I also think letting Munoz go was a gamble which, so far, does not look to have paid off. Yes Khalaili looks dangerous going forward and Mingueza has impressive pedigree but their limitations are more apparent than their strengths right now. Mitchell still looks a class act.

But I do not think I am in a position to judge the defenders yet because the team shape out of possession and in possession is so unclear.

The defenders are obviously being told to push up when out of possession, but the forwards/midfield do not press consistently which leaves us open and the defenders looking foolish. The defenders are obviously being told to zonal mark but overloads at the back post are killing us. When crosses come in the defenders are marking spaces not players. Even simple runs across the defenders to the near post from crosses are creating chance after chance.

With Richards and Canvot these things were either not happening last year or at least happening a lot less (I accept Canvot's heading was and still is a liability. He also has a mistake in him with passing).

I hope that if/when we do start tracking runners and giving up on this high press philosophy which clearly does not suit the players we will start to see better defenders and better defensive performances than those we are seeing now.

I could well see a back four of Mitchell, Mingueza, Tomiyasu and Richards doing enough to keep us competitive. Then Timber/Wharton/Kamada providing an engine room for the forwards to win us games. I could also see us sticking with three and a narrower set of wing backs. We did this at Leeds and there is no reason this cannot become the standard.

Well, we're not well run...

We've seen It before where a change of manager just doesn't change a clubs fortune, for whatever reason and I feel this is our season where nothing goes right.... red cards, fluke goals, players going missing.. it's all happening to us at once..

There has to be a different approach to getting the best out of what we have... it doesn't seem like Sage knows that approach..

I'm sure Richards, Disasi and Mitchell and Tomiyasu (if ever fit) are experienced defenders that have proved capable in the Premier League.
With some protection in midfield in front of them ( which is not happening under Sage), they could play narrower and concentrate on stopping crosses and defending the penalty area.
It really is that simple.

Find it interesting that 1 in 2 of us have decided Sage needs to leave. The remaining 50% either can’t decide or want him to stay.
Does anyone really believe Sage can turn this around?

From a decision making process the construct has to be the risk of sticking with Sage which is an expectation based on no material facts supporting a trend of improvement, versus invoking the only variable change open to Parish ... a new coach. Statistically speaking, sticking with the current coach has a higher probability of failure than changing to a proven quantity. That is the game theory, the observer theory is that the team seem to be making it up on the pitch, no game plan and a defence that is like a sieve ...... and not much has changed since day one. The only reason we have some points is down to a core resilient bunch of players making up for the poor performers. The stats do not lie and the trend is relegation.

Its a results game so whether Sage has been dealt a crap hand, is unlucky or not right for Palace the Liverpool game I expect will decide his future. Lose and he will be sacked and the new guy who is probably already waiting in the wings given two weeks to bed in. A win and Sage will probably stay until at least the end of the year (unless he fails to beat Hull and Coventry). A draw and its a toss up.

I'm not 100% convinced on Disasi, albeit West Ham fans liked him in a relegation season. In all other respects spot on.
