Bromley - Burton Albion, 28.11.26

Are you sure that sports shop was in Penge ?

Because there used to be a shop of that description in Beckenham....
Yes right on the corner opposite the pawleyne arms. It could’ve been a toy shop though. We just used to stand in there drooling at all the subbuteo stuff before we got our next bus up the hill to the ground

Andy Townsend used to play at Welling as did Nick Pope on Loan from Charlton and Steve Finnan who went on to win several medals at Liverpool.
I recall visiting the 'Station' Public House on my way to see the 'Wings'.
Peter Taylor and Steve Lovell have both managed the club.
They had a goal machine at the time called Gary Abbott, a proper old non league work horse who knew where the goal was

Woody looks like he was hung out to dry by the owner, who in turn is trying to either attract outside investors or selling up entirely depending on which rumour you believe !

A Nigerian group which includes Victor Iheanacho ( ex Everton ) are believed to be incoming.

Interesting parallel with Palace....the DOF at Bromley is being blamed for the players signed in the summer and that are proving not up to it in L1. The character and spirit of the group - basically in Woody's image - just hasn't been there this season.

Saying all that, it still makes for a good day out even if I don't have the same feeling for them post Woody.
I believe Bromley signed 16 players in the summer.

No I hardly go since they’ve got in the football league, simply because it made a nice little change from palace when they were a small little non league team with a few hundred at games, park right outside, stand or sit where you want, move around the ground freely, meet up with mates with no sodding about with tickets, it’a not the same club to me, but that’s just my choice, the club has obviously evolved

Ok, gotcha. 😀

I used to get the 227 to Beckenham and the sports / subbuteo shop was on the corner of Manor Road.

Steve Finnan was the answer to a quiz question and Welling part of the clue. Can't remember the question though!

Those were the days, the memories when i finally get round to clearing my loft 🤣

Back in the mists of time I attended a 'Gentlemans Evening' in Orpington, the location of which escapes me.
There were some ladies present but only those baring their bosoms.
One invited me to sample the texture of her breasts !
