Stocking up food and water

If people start fighting each other with crossbows then there's not really a society worth surviving for.
The Israelis were using trebuchets against Hamas.

As a civvie you're kind of limited with ranged weapons, a couple half decent Balearic slingers would send a horde of rioters running.
It's also impossible for the government to ban string & stones.

Granted, I'm saying what's the point in surviving?

Having read a handful of posts here I see the conspiracy theorists are enjoying themselves.

Whilst it’s obviously true that we live in a fast changing and dangerous world some of the responses here seem pretty ridiculous to me. I don’t doubt that we face raised threats to our infrastructure and military sites but mass drone attacks wiping out the national grid? Come on? Where on earth could that be launched from that we seriously wouldn’t notice?

Those of you talking about arming yourselves as the way to be prepared ought to be ashamed of yourselves. You won’t be of course. I give thanks that you are so few in number. The rest of us would do what people always actually do in a crisis. Rely on cooperation and community to do the best we can.

Of course it’s wise to be prepared. We lost power here for the last 2 days. Something that seems to happen quite regularly in recent years. Every house but mine in the immediate neighbourhood went dark. Not mine though. Everything worked fine, the heating was on, so were the lights and all the electrics. I was prepared! We have enough food stored to last at least a month. Can collect water if we need to.

Survival is your biological imperative.

It's what you are here to do, survive and pass on your genes....raise them to adulthood and then that's when it doesn't matter. Some can't do that, but they can help the process by protecting and building what's important.

What you're kind of saying is that back in medieval times and before no one should have bothered because it was all a bit sh1te.

Reject the idealogical consequences of nihilism.

With nihilism nobody would have even bothered to build civilisation in the first place.....it's a conceptional cancer.

Mass attack of drones is one of those things where while it wouldn't be easy, it is doable for a properly motivated nation/organization who had access to shipping capabilities.

Take a look at Operation Spiderweb for how to carry it out as the Ukrainians have already showed how to do it. The US has been looking at it for a while from both the offensive and defensive perspective.

That being said, is it likely? No, regional disruptions through cyber attacks are more likely. One the major issues with the National Grid (of the UK) is that there are many stations that are only minimally connected so that the only way to take them offline is through flipping a switch at the location as opposed to being able to take down the entire grid from a single point that you can do in places with more modern grids.

There are an estimated 1.3 million preppers in the UK, so not exactly a small number. (Fun fact, that is basically half the number of Palace fans there are around the globe.)

See, you are a prepper!
