What changed the game ?

What a load of old sh*t.
You could say that Everton were lucky that we hit the post twice instead of scoring or that Ipswich were lucky that the ball fell to their only player in the box (Fleming) in the last minute, or Leeds were lucky that we never beat them as we were the better team and we unluckily had a goal ruled offside by about half an inch.
So far over this season , all luck being equal, we could easily have an extra couple of points, if we were a bit more lucky 😀

As others have said, luck changed the game more than anything else.
As incredible as Benetiz was, they should have scored two or three before we got one. Obviously, in most games there are chances and half chances at either end before a goal goes in, but this was different. These were unreal sitters that Forest missed, and they had about three of them. We were far luckier than most teams who survive the odd scare before scoring themselves. This was bordering on unbelievable.

We then got lucky that the first one fell to Kamada as it did, that the second one wasn't saved and that VAR, for once, didn't stick it's f***ing beak in. Then we got lucky that they hit the post from close range. Then our third was pretty lucky as well in the way the ball fell to Pino!

Of course, football includes luck most weeks. We could have scored from Larsen at 0-1, and the team made its own luck to a degree in the second half. Still, most neutral reports found it incredible that Forest went into the break behind rather than out of sight. They probably can't believe they lost.

I should think Fulham felt much the same. Looking back at Mitchell's goal in that game I can understand that. That's two wins, both very lucky.

I'll take whatever luck Palace can get, but it's still worth noting when you've got away with a performance that would see you lose most weeks. They say its better to be lucky than good, but that's bollocks. Luck runs out far sooner.

The beauty of all of this is that it is buying Sage some time he might not have otherwise. He has been given a very difficult (impossible?) task to replace Glasner, integrate a hugely changed (I still think weakened) squad, coach a team to cohesion in a preseason when half of them weren't even there, and do it all in a new league and a second language. If he is to succeed then he needs to have a bit of grace, wriggle room, and not be in the pressure-cooker all the time. Lucky wins or not, the points have got us to our spiritual home of 12th from which he is surely far more free to carry on working as he wants to.

It was a massive win, and we might come to see ourselves owing Lady Luck our gratitude for more than just the three points.

This was an incredible game but we can’t deny that we were lucky to win both the Fulham and this game. The next few games are very important. We need to pick up a few wins and solid defensive displays. And build on from that. Jury is still out on Sage for me despite this win. It was chaotic and crazy and frankly I have never seen a good side play like this.

There is nothing lucky about scoring more goals than the opposition, why people are negative about us winning games is odd. Overall we were better than Forest, simple as.
Sage plays a similar style to Pardew with focus on attacking, which makes it much more enjoyable to watch and unpredictable, as opposed to Glasner style. Glasner has been worked out by other Premier teams and they know how to combat him, good luck to Forest.
By the way Timber will be a future captain leading by example.

Like I said originally, luck plays a part in most games. My point was that we had far, far more of it in one go against Forest than is usual. Same is true of how we won at Fulham.

There's normal, run of the mill football luck, then there's what we got yesterday.

There was definitely luck involved, as has been said, there always is and we have been on the wrong side of it before quite recently. Confidence and momentum are very powerful things, when we don’t have them under Sage we are vulnerable but when we get them we are dangerous. The first and third goals were excellent moves.

Definitely luck. They hit the wood 3 times! Did you see how many shots they also had on target?

OG is undoubtedly a good manager, but his sides seem to have a poor conversion rate.

Having attended the match and then seen the edited highlights, the BBC flattered Forest for the second half. They had a few chances (all shown) but the traffic was pretty much the other way (not shown).

Forest seemed to give up and their attacks were largely toothless (although there were a couple they should have buried).

...probably because they wanted to reinforce the daylight robbery of the 1st half.

1 less than us , both keepers only made 4 saves . Our conversion rate was higher . Which wins games

I thought I saw a tactical change from Sage after the first 30 mins or so that shifted the balance of play somewhat.

Kamada was moved more central to play closer to Wharton and Timber. The extra man in midfield help gain a little more control of the ball which we did.

Our poor defending continued but our offensive play improved with this change.

Could be wrong.

Absolutely spot on, I don’t hate Pardew like some, if we’re going to lose or go down, let’s at least lose or go down attacking. I’d sooner watch a Pardew Palace than a Roy Hodgson Palace any day of the week

If you take your chances and the opposition are crap at finishing and your keeper is in great form luck has zero to do with it.
Its a Premiership game. Both teams have the quality to score. Everyone concedes chances against. two of them were poor finishing (Delap/Munoz), two of them were fantastic saves. No luck whatsoever

Its not robbery if you finish your chances and they dont mate. It makes a nice change not being on the other end of a result like that when Mateta misses 5 open goals and we lose 2-1!

I notice not many people moaning that the opposition were 'lucky' when JPM was failing to finish his breakfast!

I'd agree with this but although I'm loving the front foot approach I'd still like to see us tighten up a bit at the back.
I was told by a pal of mine that Lens had the second meanest defence in the French League last season (only bettered by PSG). If thats true its encouraging. At least we know he knows how to set up a defensive back line. We've had to chop and change the personell which hasn't helped so maybe that side will begin to improve too.

100%.

I suspect we might see lots of different types of Palace this season. Harder away games and we set up tighter (e.g. Leeds away) vs easier oppos, especially at home set up more to be more expansive.

What I'm sure we wont see is the Glasner low block every game regardless of the oppo.
