Main Stand redevelopment thread

It will also prevent the current gantry (which has grown out of all proportion compared to the original version) from blocking sight lines in the AW.

It will be odd to see Selhurst on telly with the AW in the background and the Holmesdale on the right of the pitch for the first time, but there are good reasons for it.
Yeah, best place for it to go. But if I’d paid £200m for a new stand, I’d want it to be seen on the tele all the time

Not sure I understand your comment. The 'small' Main 5,000 capacity stand is being demolished leaving the 10,000 seat Arthur Wait facing the 13,000 capacity New Main stand. That is far more balanced and in any case the TV gantry will no longer be in the Arthur, but moved to new main stand facing the existing stands. COYP
Maybe you should read the conversation I was having then instead of just my comment. We were talking about the impact on the Whitehorse stand once 8 rows of seats are removed and a new massive Main Stand is then looming over it.

More hold up's announced . More BS from Parish.
So he’s now saying (article in the Athletic) that the finance isn’t in place - it was but some of that has been spent on the team (!) and costs have continued to rise more than they planned for. Re-development will now be in stages to help spread the cost out. And they’ve binned the original project management company. None of this fills me with much confidence.

Only that would cost north of £200m, unless they are re-visiting the place up the road which is up for redevelopment. So maybe you're right.
I know it was a few years ago but Brighton built whole stadium for 200m ? Surely prices haven't increased that much that one stand is now 200m plus ?

Is it bullshit?

Or is it someone who is trying to balance all of the things that are going on. Whilst being judged by people who dont have any idea of all thing things going on?
When the stadium’s finished and up and running I’ll agree with you. Or even some signs that the whole project is under control. Perhaps you might like to enlighten us ignorant people as to what these are.

I dont know any more than anyone else. (Which is why i dont jump to conclusions that SP is bullsh1tting)

My starting point is always, we know nothing and I'm sure those in charge are doing their best.

We've heard about spiralling costs, we've also now heard that Europe was costly (which I've suspected for some time), and the investment in the team.

Ideally we'd do it all, and build the stadium fast. But if we have to slow the build down a little (SP's point about not overpaying ppl to be ready) and that free's up money to invest in the team I'm ok with that.

I don't think there is too much debate that costs have spiralled over recent years. I certainly found out the hard way that they have! In fact, if I sat down with Parish over a pint and told him all about my various domestic building projects and associated financial headaches, he might end up pulling the plug altogether!

If only we had mega-rich part-owners who could just bankroll the whole project in order to grow their investment, rather than the club having to foot the bill out of its income. Oh well.....

Simple Brighton v London house prices , the cost to build in London is higher alot higher , I live in Shropshire the bungalow I brought cost 175 London or Essex 360 minimum if not more , it would cost close to 800m to build a stadium in London for over 40k people , so unless we move north its high

I think Brighton was nearer £95 million, although they've spent quite a bit since

To be fair Brighton's stadium only holds 30,000 capacity and I'm told only one stand has anything that resembles luxury. The rest of the stadium is probably like the Holmesdale concourses. Nothing wrong with that but the whole point of our new Main Stand is its going to bring in a lot of corporate money. To do that involves VIP boxes, Restaurants, all sorts of other corporate entertainment, etc, etc. This, coupled with spiralling building costs, coupled with London prices, coupled with a greedy unhelpful council that want Palace to pay for all new pavements, signage and pedestrian crossings AND pay them for the privilege I'd imagine the costs are on a different planet and can 100% believe the cost of a Main Stand in London could end up more than a basic design 30k stadium on brown land in Brighton will be higher

At the time Brighton first played at the Amex, in 2011, the stadium cost was approximately £95 Mill and the capacity at the time was 22,500.
Since then they have had phased expansions to the stadium and the capacity is now approximately £32,000. I believe these upgrades have cost in the region of £40 Mill.

This is what I don't get. The building of the stand is separate from the FFP/CSR malarchy, so why don't these investors want to generate more income/improve the future of their investment!? Wrexham's Hollywood owners are doing it and they're certainly not as affluent as our American lot.

Why shouldn't the council demand that ?

I agree, what is the point of Harris,Blitzer and Johnson if they are not going to put some of their money in to the stadium re-build.
