Leeds vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Olise was never gonna be a flop but Munoz is now half a yard slower and Lacroix is not as good as many of the forum thought. Wright, Sansom and Olise and to some extent Eze and Guehi are different class.

Munoz not quite had the zip since his injury. Still think he is a good player though and his attitude lifts others. My views on selling him are known but he’s not a Palace player any more.

I know lots of people think signing Khalali was great but I’ve been unconvinced at best so far. Yesterday he was awful. So many panicked bits of play giving the ball away in bad positions. Leeds had him on toast all day long. He has struggled defensively and with passing so far. Very early days but I’d be tempted to try Mingueza right now now

Precisely what I was thinking Patrick. Kamada is a bit like the glue in the team and not a peripheral figure like Pino. Pino can come on as a sub for impact. It’s basically playing 5 3 2

This isn’t an anti Daichi post, because he’s looked much better recently as one of the 10s. All I ever wanted was a more solid partner for Wharton in the engine room and we have that now. But Kamada and Pino, when both at their best, aren’t comparable imo. Pino has a much higher ceiling and delivers impact - killer passes, assists, goals and free kick threat. Kamada, while solid positionally as you say and keeps things ticking well, will never have that impact. Pino has been coming on well and looks a class above - we simply must keep playing him.

I did a midweek Port Vale away. We lost 4-1 and George Graham got sent off for us - it was a long time ago. Got back to London and had to wait for the tubes to start running before going straight to work. Similar time losing 2-1 at Tranmere on a Friday night, only didn't have work the next day.

I was not present at the game but have a vague recollection of it.
For some reason I believe that Jeff Bourne scored but this could be total hogwash.

Pino is more of a creator in theory. I love the idea of Pino and he should do all the things you say. However, the facts are he hasn’t done those things for Palace and has frequently given the ball away and been ineffective. The last couple of games he has been more influential so hopefully that continues.

If Sarr comes back to his best then I think Pino misses out though. Sarr provides more goals, more assists and more attacking threat. Pino can’t do the role Kamada did yesterday and we are going to need that

Last season we confidently went to Elland Rd to play an out of form Leeds and got thumped. It felt like a pivotal point for our league form and we struggled to gain either confidence or consistency thereafter.
This season we travelled to Elland Rd with trepidation and zero expectation against an in form Leeds. Okay, it was a draw, but the performance felt like a solid foundation. I think we're in an okay place. Players are beginning to forge links, we looked like a team yesterday and the gaps left by those that left feel a lot smaller. It's not perfect, but going into the international break it does feel a lot calmer.

Its refreshing that people have different opinions on the starting 11, for too long our 11 picked itself, any injuries, players missing and we knew we would struggle. I couldn't pick our starting 11 now, you can make a solid argument for about 17 players. We will be very fortunate to ever see a starting 11 as strong as a team with eze, olise and Guehi in but this is by far the best squad we've ever had.

And yet he completed more tackles than anyone else on the field yesterday (11) so he was hardly had on toast. It was more a case of Leeds targetting that wing in the knowledge that Bogle wasn't going to get much change out of Mitchell on the other side.

It’s very interesting to see Timber taking MOM performances and exceeding Wharton in the last few games. We need star quality like this throughout the team.

( plus the fact that a free kick is either a goal or a great save or the inside of the post when he takes them -incredible delivery ) He was a little off yesterday but is POTY so far for me. Unlucky not to have at least another goal and assist five games in.

We must start playing Sarr now he's fit and hopefully has stopped pretending he is basically a wage-slave. Our attack badly needs pace.

JSL vs Mateta should be interesting when football resumes. JSL's hold up isn't much behind Mateta's, his finishing is better IMHO and we need to bed him in for when Mateta goes. Still, Mateta does add a little extra pace so it's a 50/50 for me.

Kamada should drop to battle Timber and Doucoure for the midfield slot beside Wharton. That will be an interesting contest. On form, I think Doucoure takes it but Timber is fast finding his feet and Kamada has that final ball on him so it might be a headache for Sage.

Great to see the defence solidifying and Canvot finding his feet within it. Lerma staked a real claim yesterday after Tomiyasu can on and might be a good option against aerial teams. What a shame Tomiyasu broke down. He is class. Including the loanees, we have enough good players we should be able to make the defence solid and deep.

Khalaili is so confident. Great buy. Mitchell is Mitchell. At least 7/10 every single game. Benitez is about as good a back up keeper you can ask for.

What we need is some luck. We've already had two goals chalked off by a hair and conceded a last-minute goal in just five games. Main thing is the defence is gelling and the system working. I was getting bored with our play last season. Not this season.

Out of interest where are you getting 11 tackles from. On most of the stats sites I can find it says he made 2. He got beaten easily several times.

I think we used up half a season’s worth of luck against Fulham. We were extremely fortunate to win that one

Let's hope Mateta returns to fitness soon. Both he and Strand Larsen struggle with stamina in the final 30 minutes. If we could count on a full-speed 45 minutes per match for each of them, we would be a much stronger squad in attack.
