JSL

How much was Strand Larsen? How many goals has he scored? How many will he score?
None of us even like Mateta or really want him at the club - but we all think we'd put him up front.
What does that say?
I always thought Strand Larsen was a worse buy than Johnson!
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think JSl has been a good buy. It’s just when we signed Johnson an empty taxi turned up at Selhurst and he got out.

How many Premier League games has Strand Larsen played and how many goals has he scored? Failing that, how many goal involvements has he had holding the ball up or assisting? I'm going to go out on a limb and say it won't take long to count up. The proof is in the pudding.
Nobody in the entire world thought that fee was worth it. We'd be better off with Edouard. Was Hobbs doing mates a favour? Or paying back how inept he'd been? Somehow it's worse than the Johnson deal. But we'd be very lucky to recoup anything from this.
A total of 18 goals in 72 PL appearances, the first 14 in 35 appearances in his first season at Wolves when he was on Loan from Celta Vigo. The deal at Wolves was a £2.5 Mill loan fee and a possible £23 Mill if the move was made permanent.Gary O'Neil signed him on loan for Wolves.I believe Vitor Pereira signed JSL on a permanent deal.

We've vastly overpaid for him.
Does that make me a bad supporter for pointing this out?
Well possibly.
For me he's like a combination of Chris Jones and Tony Mahoney - you know they are on the field and in a centre forward postion , but you're not entirely sure why.
The main times I noticed Larsen yesterday was when he was laughing and joking with Haaland at set pieces , and on the one and only occasion he did win a challenge he celebrated by punching his fists towards the fans as if he had scored a winning goal in a cup final.

Of course I want him to do well, but I just can't see it.
To compound the issue he doesn't even provide the nuisance value offered by other non scoring strikers.
It's almost like playing with 10 men.

I put jsl, johnson and nketiah all in the same boat.

£15m on any of them as back-ups, ok (ish in johnson's case) prices but when you pay £48m, £30m and £35m for those three then it is really, really very bad business!!

(you could even put £26m on pino into that bracket also)

4 in his last 37? It feels like that. One in 9. Gareth Tayloresque.

The deal was £43 Mill rising to £48 Mill.
He has scored 3 PL goals for us in 15 appearances.
Simon Jordan labelled him a "Donkey" in the early part of this year.

I can’t believe it hasn’t been said since the last post.

JSL has very much established himself as a good striker. I’m not sure Mateta walks back in.

agreed!! His link up play has been very good which has surprised me. Has quite a few assists throughout his career.

He has improved and goals obviously help his confidence. Ironically it's actually think it's his link up play which is still lacking. He still often fails to hold onto the ball when in a duel that he should win and when he does his lay off to another player is quite often poor... But there have at least been signs of this improving so fingers crossed.

He's got a huge task on his hands this weekend though against a very physical and organised Leeds defence (the rest of the team also have a huge task on their hands too).

He's certainly getting better.

He's got fire in his belly now. You could see it after his Ipswich goal, and even after being subbed on Thurs, he was walking down the front of the Hol with gritted teeth pumping everyone up.

There is clearly still improvement needed, but things are moving in the right direction.

Yep. 4 in 3 now I think.
Definitely improving.
Needs to keep it up and keep Mateta out of the team , when he’s fit.
If he goes back into his shell, when there’s competition upfront, he hasn’t got the character for it.

At least whatever we say about JSL, that’s 8 goals since his arrival, some decent efforts and some good old fashioned centre forward headed goals, so at least we’re getting some return for the fortune we paid for him

mateta couldn’t head the ball if his life depended on it, so that’s one thing I’m enjoying about JSL, a good cross and he might actually get his head to it

Mateta shouldn't see another game, he made his bed and now has to lie in it. Getting the understanding between Pino and JSL and whoever else plays in a forward position is key to future success.
