JSL

There is a decent player there, Sage has to get it out of him

He's hiding it very well. I've never known such a 'big lad' to look so incredibly weak. Even Nketiah wins more physical duels.

We bought him for stupid money when he couldn't get into the team at a failing Wolves.

I know we're not playing exactly to his strengths but for nearly 50m you'd expect him to at least be involved. Plus a player offering so little isn't exactly going to convince a manager to change his entire set up (although I do agree currently we would be better off with a 4231... But I'm not the manager).

I feel sorry for him. Last night he got very little service and he struggled.

We look a confused side right now we need to do a lot more with the new players to bring them into the team and just hope the chairman does sell any more of our best players.

At this rate we seem to be having another summer intent on flogging our stars and replacing them with loans or worse players.

God knows what will happen if anyone puts a serious bid in for Wharton.

When he did receiver the ball he was either muscled off it or gave it away.
He is 6ft 4in but he just not compete physically.Spends more time on the floor than a snake's belly.

“!Muscled out “ 100% Uncle Marc told the bald whinging Italian to place two defenders on him

1st up his arse at all times & off balance him , 2nd follow thru - happened time & time again.
City had him worked out to a tee.

Eddie , well no speed his marker was way faster.

Judging from what we have seen thus far and taking his transfer price into consideration - weak, slow, no hard work ethic, an inability to hold up the ball, and a failure to make positive runs all contribute to any fan doubting that it was money well spent. Matata was total pony until Glasner got him working harder and coaxed a performance out of him. Can Sage do the same with Strand Larsen?

Plus with Eddie, much as I like him, two games now and he’s missed two big chances, I’m first to slaughter mateta for missing chances, we’ve just got to stick these bloody chances away, I know they ended up scoring four, but goals DO change games

No way are Strand Larsen and Nketiah adequate strike options. Absolutely no way. Add in that Pino can't pass or cross into that. I'd drop all three straight away. And replace them with... Oh.

Other issue is no one we've bought actually goes in there. We've somehow managed to get decent enough players in but they don't improve anything. I think mainly to do with how the team has deteriorated over the last year. There isn't a team to speak of currently. We do look exactly like West Ham, we'd be lucky if we were Spurs and scrape survival. We're just as weak, leaderless, rudderless and gutless. We're also slow and lack tactical nous and technical skill. Too slow at making decisions up front and at the back. We always make the wrong one.
Khalaili is decent, Tomiyasu is decent. Wharton and Kamada are fine but are knackered on the hour. Then no one to bring on.
None of this is good enough for this league.

Yes, the team is much weaker. Parish can try the smoke and mirrors trick of bringing in numerous new signings but as you say "there isn't a team to speak of currently". No form, no pattern, no spine, no leaders. I thought last season that this might be the one we go down for the reasons mentioned.

Being marked like that is pretty common in the PL. my concern is that he didn’t know what to do about it. He’s not a Mateta who can muscle his way through. At the very least he should move his markers around to create space for others to utilise but he doesn’t seem to have the game intelligence to do that.

He did spend a bit of time on the floor, but I'd agree with this.

Personally I thought JSL tried to put himself about a bit more. Didn't all come off, but certainly wasn't hiding.

HOL is one to avoid post loss, can never understand why everyone is so negative

How many Premier League games has Strand Larsen played and how many goals has he scored? Failing that, how many goal involvements has he had holding the ball up or assisting? I'm going to go out on a limb and say it won't take long to count up. The proof is in the pudding.
Nobody in the entire world thought that fee was worth it. We'd be better off with Edouard. Was Hobbs doing mates a favour? Or paying back how inept he'd been? Somehow it's worse than the Johnson deal. But we'd be very lucky to recoup anything from this.

Yeah agree, but nor is Delap worth £20m more a season later. Or Savinio 85mThe market is mad.

The elevated fees, dont help expectations. But JSL has scored more than JP did in his first season and a half...

Nothing is worse than the Johnson deal. Nothing. Even Russia selling Alaska was a better deal.

I think it took JP about three years to get four goals didn’t it? Or that’s what it felt like. Admittedly he was down the pecking order behind Benteke and Batman

How much was Strand Larsen? How many goals has he scored? How many will he score?
None of us even like Mateta or really want him at the club - but we all think we'd put him up front.
What does that say?
I always thought Strand Larsen was a worse buy than Johnson!
