Sage is sage

Sage ??
lose at Leeds and time to turn the page.
Get Howe in and start to win!!
Last night as I entered a Public House I met a supporter whom I have known for a few years.
After greeting me, his words were "We are down" and he is a gentleman usually positive about our prospects.
My riposte was that the season is in its infancy, and he countered with suggestions centred around a replacement. He believes Sean Dyche would be an ideal appointment bringing with him Ian Woan whose father Alan played for our club.

I can’t see Howe coming to Palace. (I think he’s destined for bigger and better things). If there is to be a change we’ll probably end up with Thomas Frank. Is he better than Sage? He has more Prem experience but he found it difficult to get things right at Spuds - why would Palace be any different?

I think we have to recognise it will take a bit of time for Sage to get it right. New signings need time to settle in and Sage has had a lot of unwelcome crap to deal with thanks to Sarr and Mateta - which he seems to have navigated fairly well.
I don’t think it’s time to hit the reset button yet.

Yeah lets go backwards god forbid changing things lets line up pulis , big sam , Roy , that should keep most of you happy
I am not expecting to see Pulis, Allardyce or Mr Hodgson in any dugout !
Some might argue that we have gone "Backwards" under Sage and this is the messaging I have been receiving however my riposte is that the season is in its infancy and several new players have to be integrated into the team.

If we're going down and it keeps us up, I don't particularly care. It won't be any of those three, well Roy isn't impossible but perhaps not really up for it. But the other two fell out with the owners badly.
Pulis did brilliantly for us - his players were f***ing awful in comparison to our current team. That's pragmatism for you.
We're all out attack at the moment. We're being Pardewed but without the good bit first.
I'd take Howe as I think we need someone to communicate more simple messages to the players. And someone willing to do what we need to do.
One thing I'll say is we literally cannot play the high press, which seems essential to Sage's plans. You'd need Mane, Bolasie, Madueke for that. We've got Pino and Kamada, Guessand and Osorio plus youngsters. They're not going to high press. Kamada is probably the best at it and he's not exactly that strong or quick. The rest can only be considered pretty light weight, I'm not even sure they're that quick.
Our front line is lightweight, not a high pressing hot bed of dynamism. That's one part of the Sage plan that will never work with what we have.
I'd also say we don't need to worry too much right now, but a month from now is different.

It will all depend on results, October being a key month. The club doesn't exist in a vacuum and if Sage hasn't produced anything looking even vaguely like an improvement on previous results don't be too surprised if Parish starts to consider his options. Sage may well need time, but how much time does he need and how much time does he have?

Even for very good groups of players the high press is an incredibly difficult thing to make work in the Premier League. Klopp had players well suited to it and it took him multiple seasons to get it right.

Get it slightly wrong and it just means you get overrun easily and lose. It’s the wrong system to be trying to implement in your first season in the Premier League when the squad isn’t tailor made for it

Stop talking sense, Willo. it's very early days. Sage is fully aware of our defensive shortcomings and we should give him time to see how he deals with the issue. This isn't anything like the De Boer fiasco and we know that Parish won't press the eject button in a panic. I expect us to be clear of the drop zone by Christmas with or without Sarr and/or Mateta. Would be nice to have them both back onside, though, so as to give us some genuine options.

I have not had any discussions on this matter, however from my perspective results will be the driving factor. We are dysfunctional at present, some of our players from last season are not playing to their capabilities, our defence has more holes in it than Swiss cheese and positivity is in short supply. Early days of course but solutions have to be found sooner rather than later.
I of course dearly desire Sage to succeed in reviving our fortunes. He faces significant challenges.

I agree that with Sarr and Mateta back we would be more potent in attack with more pace, physical power and trust which would enable us to be more on the front foot and carry more threat.
Mateta won't be fit for a while, and Sarr's near term involvement must be in doubt if he's not training with the first team at present.
Lose at Leeds, and perhaps against Forest and Brighton , then it's difficult to see Sage remaining in post.
It's not that he's a bad manager necessarily, but sometimes there are a combination of events in football meaning unfortunately people are in the wrong place in the wrong time.

Most certainly, how could it be any other way? No "woulda" "coulda" "might have been" "if only" or any of the multitude of excuses than fans like to make when things aren't going well. Only results - respect the point as Big Sam said.

We are 'In lockstep' on the points you have raised.

Much more than now.

We're not cut adrift at the bottom. We are changing the way we play. Thats not an overnight fix. We are also missing our 2 best players.

Score aside, Ipswich was a huge improvement at the back.

People have to remember he has 11 new players and the old ones are sent in there ways , there's a breakdown between the 2 groups also trying to play in a different style , its not going to happen overnight , I would be more worried if it was only 5 new signings and its disjointed ,

I of course want Sage to succeed for obvious reasons and I can appreciate the challenges he is facing, perhaps more than he anticipated.
I am also cognisant of the fact that he has somewhat limited experience as a manager and I made this point on HOL after his appointment was announced.

That's a floored argument Pep didn't have any managerial experience before taking over Barcelona , so what do you call experience as in length of time , he has had 90+ games in the French lge with success , so I can never understand that argument

Apart from that Mrs Lincoln how was the play?

We conceded three goals, at home, to a newly promoted side …
