Our present squad

Ahanor (loan), Chilwell, Osario (loan with obligation to buy) and Timber all shown as new signings on the official Palace app.

David Ozoh has gone on a permanent deal to Derby and Sosa on loan to Cologne. No news of what’s happening with JRS and Esse.

And Joe Whitworth to Wigan also reported in the afternoon though he's still showing up on the Palace website in the U21 teams section?

I don't know much about Timber so looked at some information and video clips of him.
He looks to be more of an attacking midfield player than a defensive/ holding player.

I may be reading too much into it, but that ( along with the other signings) points to a continuation of the back 3 rather than moving to a back 4 with a holding player.

Perhaps the main change with Sage is that he will be far more likely to rotate and use subs.
This is fine as long as it's structured with a purpose as opposed to looking like a bunch of strangers thrown together.

According to Transfermarkt our squad is now worth 613m Euros, with Wharton the highest value player on 70m, and 17 full internationals 😉

Sage could go 4-3-3 with Timber the most advanced of the midfield 3 which I would like to think (if Doucoure ever gets back to his best) would be Wharton, Doucoure and Timber.

I agree. We need to change things up, it’s now a bit boring to watch three centre backs passing the ball around to each other with no speed up front. We should go 433 and put Timber in as a box to box midfielder. Play Disasi and Richards/Chilwell/ Tomayasu/ Canvot as centre backs. Go with Mateta if he ever gets fit and Sarr and Pino upfront but always have one option with speed up top.

He could, and I think that could work if Doucoure was fit and back to his old form.
However, it's such a big 'if' I've discounted it. He's nowhere near a matchday squad at present and I will be surprised if he features much in the opening months.
It will be interesting to see if he makes the bench v Middlesbrough.

So we win three trophies with one method and now all the arm chair experts want to change it ??

Mmmmm
did you watch any games in the 2nd half of the last season? 4 wins in c20 games was relegation form (and a couple of those wins were injury time winners)?

Playing 343 against a low block doesn't work - surely we can all agree on that. Similarly having no plan B takes inflexibility to another level.

As one of those 'armchair experts ' we've lost 4 players from our FA Cup winning team with uncertainty over the contribution of two more.
Football at Palace existed before the advent of 343.
Sensible managers look at available resources and plan around what will get the best out of available resources.

I think we could use a change in formation. How would you see a 4-3-3 with our squad?

Henderson
Mingueza Richards Disasi Mitchell
Wharton Timber Kamada
Sarr Mateta (or S-L) Pino

Bench: Benitez, Canvot, Tomiyasu, Hughes, Khalaili, McNeil, Osorio, Guessand, S-L (or Mateta)

We have 5 games 3 lge 2 cups in 18 days , this is the preseason to get the right balance and find how it works 🙏🤞😰😳👍🏻

Formations can be flexiable.

IMO the issue we had last seasons is that Glasners way of playing was so rigid, so we had no width.

Sarge has already shown that he plays things a little differently. He's a high energy high press manager.

Has anyone totalled up the numbers of players we have compared to the PL squad allowed? Just wondering if we are clearly banking on Sarr being one of them or if we should still be worried about the later transfer deadline in Turkey and the Middle East?
