Years ago it was the home team that would change to their alternative strip, out of respect for the opposition, they wouldnt have to travel carrying 2 sets of kits, this then changed. Why would they be carrying two kits? Surely in that scenario they'd only carry the change strip.

Anyway, we may be talking about different eras from each other here, but yes there was a time when the home kit would always be the home kit, and the away kit would always be the away kit.

I remember it very well and watched enough of it.
 
I always liked the sash, it's what I started with more or less. I have the Admiral one in the cupboard. If I hold my stomach in it fits me (medium and shrank).
But I always had this feeling that when we had it, we just didn't do that well. Kit jinx?

I was there too mate. But young. That's my original team. I remember only too well what happened. Top of the league to absolutely nothing at all.
I've always identified with the Sash but it hasn't actually done us any favours. Our best years are in red'n'blue. Despite how nice the sash is. I'm superstitious, touch wood. Jinx. Fingers crossed 🤞

You want to be careful telling people in Ireland that you identify with The Sash...
 
I think I'm right in saying that in the very old days (I go back to the fifties) clubs had just two strips. The one by which they were known was normally worn both home and away. When there was a colour clash - but only in that situation, so not just for the sake of it - the away side wore its second strip.

Talking of colour clashes, I remember a home game against Plymouth Argyle, who were playing in their normal green strip. After a Plymouth corner the ref stopped play and told the Palace goalie that he couldn't carry on in his green top. After several minutes a royal blue top was found and play resumed.

Im guessing because it was at the discretion of match officials, maybe some would say there was a clash, others would let them play. Certain clubs they wouldn't know untill they had spoken to the match officials.

Of course but it has absolutely nothing to do with the rules of the game and everything to do with clubs making money off the sale of replica kits. Im guessing more people are likely to buy if they're playing atleast half their games in it.

Kits and Plymouth, in recent seasons all three kits Plymouth have released have been green as they've not had to worry about colour clashes. This is how stupid modern football is.
