Forest V Leeds

No, the players have done that, in spite of a crap manager.

I like the directness of your answer. And it is not entirely without merit

Premier League finishes of 10th, 12th and 15th don't spell excellence especially when you consider the performance of other middle ranked teams like Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford, Sunderland and at a stretch Fulham within the same period.

But to bring a bit of nuance, perhaps for the benefit of any very scared Forest supporters who might stumble across this thread - a couple of points.

Even with a good set of players a poor manager can get terrible results. I'll pick Amorin as an example. When he left and a sensible manager came in and played a sensible formation to the team's strengths Carrick got them to third. Glasner made the most of the excellent players he inherited.

Where he was incredibly lucky was that he had the players who could play the system he wanted. Or he recognised that 3-4-3 was the perfect system for the players he had. (or 3-4-2-1 if you prefer)

This was not the case for Amorin at Man Utd or it seems so far Glasner at Forest.

Finally to the point. Glasner is a good manager in good circumstances. But he lacks any flexibility in his tactical approach and mindset. Totally stubborn. And his tactical approach is extremely specific. And hard to coach.

He would only play the same limited set of Palace players because he had no faith in the other squad members being able to meet the standards required by the system. And when he was forced to play the wider squad due to injuries of the best team the results were terrible. He couldn't coach them to improve. He just got angry and lashed out.

When the better players returned the results improved and a trophy followed. So that gives strength to your statement.

But perhaps the most important argument in his favour is in the really big games, the cup games, the semi finals and finals in major competitions - he got the team (of excellent players) over the line and brought home the silverware. And no other Palace manager has ever done that.

The dream scenario is that he is sacked after we beat them!
I find it beyond my comprehension that given Glasner provided us with the greatest period of success in our history there are sentiments expressed hoping that he suffers ignominy by having his services terminated.
I for one will afford him a cordial welcome when he returns to Selhurst Park with Nottm Forest.

Watching Leeds break through midfield and exploit space out wide while Forest couldn’t defend set plays all looked very familiar.

The thing with Glasner is everyone knows exactly how his teams will set up and play. People have had two years to study it and he is just implementing the exact same system at Forest. I maintain he was well and truly worked out in the EPL last season and unless he changes approach this season will be no different.

Do we want Glasner to win tonight? If he does, Forest get another fixture pile-up, and with him seemingly determined to stick with the same XI every game, fatigue and injuries could really become an issue for them.

Or do we want Leeds to stuff Forest tonight and put Glasner’s job under pressure.

I’ll always be eternally grateful for what Glasner did for us, but his selfish antics around Christmas together with the way he rubbed our faces in it when he went to Forest, left a pretty bitter taste for me.

Personally, I hope they are stuffed tonight!
Who is Glasner?

Yes. Success in the Conference Cup last season came against sides that were not familiar with the routine. Even then some "lesser" teams sussed it out and turned us over. In the league we had been well and truly figured out. The midfield engine room was always short of numbers and there became an over-reliance on Mateta to hold it up or Munoz to dash down the wing. That's Glasner's system in a nutshell, and he could never find plan B.

Good point. I think all managers need to adapt and some of the best - Wenger and Mourinho as examples - were past their sell by dates when others caught up.

Glasner is very good at managing a specific system. It works well, especially away from home, however, the 2 in CM can get overrun and on turnover there is always space down the flanks that you can overload. Brentford were always very good at exploiting this.
We know it also struggles against a low block as the wing backs get neutralised.

It appears he is taking the same blueprint to Forest. He is now signing players to improve that formation e.g. Delap is seen as a better and more mobile option to the ageing Wood etc.

It may work, especially as Forest aren't in Europe, but in time it will get found out.

I recall a discussion with an informed gentleman who mentioned that Carlos Corberan deploys a number of systems, one simply does not know which formation he will deploy at the start, furthermore he has the proclivity to change systems within games.
This gentleman also stated that Graham Potter is not 'Wedded' to any particular system and he used 13 different starting formation in the League in his final season at Brighton.

The new City manager is another 'meddler.'
They are all aspiring Peps without the brains.

There’s videos around from Forest fans of a fan that ran on the pitch, of course it would’ve been rude for me not to comment that it was Glasner trying to escape already 😇

But could Pep got us trophy's and lge success with limited squad doubt it , he has done well at big clubs with big budgets and world class players ,

He left city who was on a down trend , klopp same with Liverpool , Emery at villa lost top players and they look poor , spurs are rudder less , Chelsea may change , So being a good manager at a top club doesn't work at a lesser club with limited resources ,

When things were going good, at Palace and when some of the clubs here and abroad clubs were is a downward trend He thought that he would sitting behind the desk of one of these clubs. Glasner did himself no favours at all being outspoken and throwing his toys out of the pram. When he walked into this club no one knew him, he knew right from the start the Crystal Palace FC is a selling club and if offers for players came in that matched the clubs valuation they would be sold.
All this bull crap Glasner gave about having a long dinner date with this Forest owner convinced him this was a worthwhile project in my opinion he went there for the money thrown at him, nothing else. He is already under pressure and this reported £50m for Delap is a panic buy in my eyes. I can’t see how the Forest owner will be pleased at present or keep his nose out of the teams playing style before things start to go pig#### I don’t think for one minute Glasner will be Forest manager by Christmas let along end of season. Oh and just for the record my opinion on this Forest owner begins with F### & ends F### Happy days 😁

We finished 10th on 53 points our most ever in the prem. Whatever way you want to spin it, he's by far our best ever manager. Couldn't care less what happens with Forest, if they get relegated, good, less chance of us getting relegated. If they get champions league, good, gives us all hope.

It's nothing personal with Glasner. Personally I wouldn't be bothered if every manager in the PL fails except ours. As long as we win they can worry about themselves.

Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner told Sky Sports

"This is a little bit the assessment after six weeks here, that maybe - and not just in the team, it's maybe in the club - that there's a little bit of ignoring the reality.

"Right now, we are far away from where we want to be, and what I'm really convinced in that where we will be.

"The fact is that this team had a relegation battle for nine months. Very turbulent season and it ended with a huge effort to stay in the league, and this is our starting point.

"It's really very important not to blame anybody because sometimes I tell them facts and they say, 'Oh, Glasner is complaining'.

"No, no, no. But then maybe your best midfielder [Elliot Anderson] leaves the club and now we expect we compete for European places because Oliver Glasner is in. Sorry, this is what I can't deliver within six weeks.

"I'm no magician, no messiah, just hard work. That is what we have to do.

"It doesn't make sense talking about seventh two years ago. It's hard, it's tough, but if you ignore the reality then you live in dreamland and this is never the best thing to do."
Can’t say I disagree with he’s words from yesterday. He has inherited a team worse than the one he took on at ours. Plus he has seen Forrest’s best player sold. Bringing in a new CF will help but there are other positions that need strengthening as well. They also need to get used to how he plays. Very unlike Glasner last night bringing on subs so early. Shows how weak they are at the moment. If they don’t get rid of Glasner by Christmas then I can see him turning it around? He’s downfall for us having played 60 games last season was that he struggled selecting players outside of he’s favourite 13 players. That shouldn’t be a problem this season with fewer matches but he needs to sort a favoured smaller squad that he likes to use first. As mentioned game 7 is against us. I hope Sage has got us sorted in time for that one?
