Mateta Contract

The best thing JP can do if he wants to move to elsewhere is to put more of the good chances he gets away. It seems Galatasaray are looking for a striker......
They have said they have agreements with ever player they have gone for , they said that rashford was coming , Bruno was as well , its effect is to make fans turn on there players to force a deal , and people buy it hook line and sinker

Unfortunately for JPM the only people who think he's worth £150k/week are him and his agent.

I wouldn't be surprised if Parish has a video of JPM missing sitters that he adds to each week and sends to JPM's agent on an auto-reply.

The Bournemouth one
The Millwall one

Maybe we can bait Marinakis into a stupid bid.

If this is true - swap deal for Salanke..?? Been cr@p at Souds but was really good at Bournemouth..!!

Now, that would be a good swap deal 🙂
As for the money he is on compared to some of the others at Palace. I can understand his annoyance. Whether he has been offered a better contract by us and he turned it down I don’t know?

The annoyance on these forums at Mateta is understandable.
Nonetheless, his goalscoring form under Glasner was exceptional.
At one point only Haaland and Salah were ahead of him for goals over the course of a year.

Yes, he misses chances.
Yes, he had a lot of creativity to set up the goals through Eze, Olise and Wharton.
But he still scored a lot of goals.

Looking at it dispassionately, how are we going to replace that?

There's been much talk of his two missed chances yesterday, but little (if any) of Larsen's missed chance after cross from the right where an unmarked Larsen tamely headed the ball at Pickford.
He couldn't have asked for a better cross and heading is supposed to be a strength of Larsen.

Mateta's attitude is symptomatic of the modern professional.
No loyalty to the club, a mercenary attitude in a short career - who's to say any of us would be any different, even if Mateta's reported behaviour isn't great.

The modern professional lives by the 5 rules of business,
'What's in it for me?'

His link up play and the help he gives our defence will be missed. Stand Lard son can’t match that. I think he is a 60/70m player so the idea to swop him sounds better than taking 25m.

Read somewhere that Ishmaila doesn't want to play in the same team as JP, which could be where the rumours of him wanting out have come from. Seems to me JP has lost some of his team mates in the dressing room, and as I said a little while back he can't hit a baboon's arse with a shovel right now. Personally I'd let him go on the cheap and play JSL up top with França with Gozo and Guessand starting too. JP will always be a trophy winning legend but kinda fed up with his attitude and his frequent missed sitters now

Really? Are you hoping for a nil nil, then? 😉

Seriously, a huge factor in how to proceed must be that Mateta and Sarr can score goals. There's no evidence any of the others can

Realistically he has to go.

I think the best we can hope for is that Watkins forces through his Saudi move, and Villa replace him with JPM. They will need a proven prem striker and have some money to spend.

I'll put my tin hat on in suggesting this, but I'd be tempted to try and swap Mateta for Gallagher.
My reasoning is that we lack energy, drive and verve and Gallagher provides this in abundance.
He's a box to box player who makes lung busting runs into the area and is a decent finisher.
He also knows the club well too.

If Munoz does go the need for more energy and drive in the team becomes even more important.

Gallagher does not suit Spurs, but I think he'd be a good fit for us.

IMO he's only ever had one purple period, and thats playing as a no10 for us. In an odd role where all we really needed him to do was trigger the press, win us high turnovers and then arrive in the box.

He's not technically very good, and has essentially failed everywhere.

I personally wouldn't go anywhere near him.

He hasn't' failed everywhere. '

I know quite a few Chelsea fans and they loved him as a player.

He also had good loan spells at WBA and Palace where again the fans appreciated his endeavour and enthusiasm

He was sold by Chelsea because they were able to make a big profit on them as a home produced player.

He didn't excel at Athletico and then went to Spurs which was a basket case last season and I think only Van der Ven had a good season for them.

I agree he's not a brilliant technical player but creating a good team is about more than technical brilliance.
It has been said the best teams are made up of 4 violin players and 7 hod carriers.
It's about achieving balance and in my view Gallagher offers qualities that others in the squad don't provide.

I accept that others will disagree about his suitability for us , but I don't accept the description of him as a 'failure.'

Send to reserves. He can stay there until he sorts himself out or we get an okay offer to ship him off to Lazio or something.

We've given him multiple chances with disruption issues on top of multiple chances with poor form. He had a great spell when the entire team was on fire and clicking, but it's not coming back.

Play França up top. He has had a fantastic preseason and looks a completely new player in his new position. Take advantage of the "like a new signing" effect.

If keeping JP is key to us having a successful season or indeed avoiding relegation then we’re is serious trouble. He does a job muscling centre backs and his hold up play is reasonable but his finishing is dreadful. If we had a half decent finisher we’d be top half easily. When was the last time we scored more than our xG? Our xG against Everton was 2.04 and we score F all thanks in large measure to Mateta’s ability in front of goal. Everton’s xG was 1.16. He’s cost us more points than he’s won. Sell him.

Yes I'm with you Patrick, this would be a good deal. JP needs to go.
