Trepidation for the 26/27 Prem season ?

Mateta first chance he stumbled and at to re-act quicker than he wanted to , 2nd one he was 3 inches out , fine margins , do find it funny when they say he should have scored that , both of them he at to beat England's no.1 keeper , thats what keepers are there for

Problem is mateta has been missing big chances for a long time now, all strikers miss chances and I know he’s a hero, but when a player clearly wanted out, you wonder how committed he is now

Much as it’s a depressing defeat, I still say if the floundering uninterested mateta puts a chance or two away and/or Pickford hasn’t got a finger to Nketiah chance it’s a different game, all ifs and buts I know, but those missed chances obviously gave Everton confidence and we’re on the back foot as soon as we go behind.
We created chances and it’s something to build on, I’d still prefer playing that way to Royball or what could’ve been Dycheball with all that turgid sit behind the ball, not create anything and still lose!!
I’m sure I’ll feel different if we get to November and we haven’t won a game, but we’ve got to at least wait until the window shuts, we’ve had a few games and things settle down in September
If we have not won a single game by November we really will be in the 'Merde' and I for one will be in a state of apoplexy.
Speaking to the Manager of a Public House last night, I opinied that the picture will be a tad clearer after teams have played 5 games and this was in general not specific to CPFC.

Come on strikers love scoring it builds up the reputation , its pundits crying bad miss when in fact its blocked , saved, hit the wood work or just wide or high , all pundits are yhe best goalscores in the world but most only scored 10 a season max 20 in a good season , out of how many chances ,

The point here is that Mateta considers himself to be a top striker.

A top striker would have put at least one of those away.

In any case, his all round game yesterday was below par. And when you go public about your contract disputes with the club that are paying your wages, that performance isn't going to impress anybody.

I think Forest will be his next destination.

Mateta does like a 'Missed chance' !
It is apparent that his heart is not in the club and he wants to depart to 'Pastures new'.It is in his interests that he finds a new 'Home' before the window shuts, however it will also be in the club's interests if we can acquire a replacement before it slams shut.

I struggle to believe this story , sounds like the dark arts are in force , very simple he can't terminate his contract under fifa rules simple

JPM was utter pony with us for his first two years. He then had a brilliant 12 months and has now reverted to being utter pony again for the last 12 months.

Maybe he’s not a top striker and is actually a bit rubbish but just happened to hit a purple patch of form.

He's not a top striker he's pony - had a good spell when provided by the likes of Eze and Olise. Yesterday Nketiah set him up nicely, how he knocked that over the bar only he will know. Frankly he misses so many good chances and we need a change of plan.
Straight swap Chris Woods for Mateta ha ha!

What '' dark arts '' would they be ?

I freely admit that I'm not au fait with the FIFA rules regarding contracts, and it does sound preposterous that he thinks he has a case.

Just another ploy to force a move ?

Indeed. People forget that there was a reason we signed JSL. Not only was JPM trying to move clubs but his general play had been absolutely awful. Now JSL hasn’t pulled up any trees and we can debate if he was the right player to sign. What isn’t debatable is we needed a new striker.

Like most I am completely fed up with JPM’s inability to put away gilt edged chances. Same with Nketiah. It’s the number one requirement for a striker and neither is good enough at it.

I believe we only had 8 points going into December a couple of years ago when we didn’t win in our first 9 games under Glasner. The start of the season is always slow going for all premier league teams because of all the poxy international breaks just as we’re all trying to get into the season

Nketiah and Mateta combination is like having Aylott and Gareth Taylor up top. But Aylott would probably score more goals. Obviously, Taylor wouldn't.
Aylott was just plain s***, Gareth Taylor should’ve been Marcus Stewart who was a goal machine, but we bought his donkey strike partner instead🤣

My priorities for this season in order:
1) Win Europa League
2) Brighton don't qualify for Conference (or crash out to someone gash before the final)
3) Glasner putting Forest in the relegation zone
4) Top half finish for Palace
5) Wrexham staying in the Championship and the celeb blokes getting bored

Referring to the 2024-25 season we never won until the 9th PL game, when we defeated Tottenham 1-0.
We had 9 pts from 13 PL games going into December and we were sitting in 17th place.

And then we beat Ipswich away and went on an away day unbeaten run of something impressive which the exact figures escapes me now
