Everton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Look, what is the job of a manager, to get the best out of what he has, produce a team with minimal outlay and maximism what you have, McNeil and Pino are wide players, known for the quality of their crossing, JSL is a CF known for his heading, Mitchell is a class premier league LB, is it not common sense to build the team thus
I have to say I agree with this. I think it is pretty obvious this squad should be playing 4-5-1. Have Lerma as a purely defensive midfielder and give Wharton space to play. Have your wingers on the wings (crazy I know!) providing crosses for your centre forward.

The 3-4-2-1 system was well and truly worked out last year and leaves us so open in the middle. To play three at the back you need three good centre halves and we don’t.

Agreed. Wharton and Kamada are amazing at beating a press and when it worked it was brilliant. But it’s a busted flush now.

Sore if I sound like a broken record - but others in here have mentioned a lack of steel. We will continue to get played through with ease while Wharton and Kamada play in our CM. So lightweight. Wharton is obviously the better of the two, so Lerma or Hughes should come in beside him until Doucoure gets fit. We won’t win many games with those two playing together. So frustrating how bloody obvious it is.

The Wharton and Kamada partnership is our best combination, it's won us three trophies, but just from listening we did seem to lack resilience and direction second half.

Why are people so negative? It was a game we could have won on another day.
We have not beaten Everton for 14 years or some.
And you are all pretty much still thinking we are the worst ever.
2 post hits, one a supersave from sadly Pickford and the other yeah well could have been better placed. And then it would have been 0-2 instead of 2-0.
I was impressed with our performance and think we will be ok.

It wasn’t the result we wanted, but my god Palace were by far the better side in that first half and created some gilt edge chances with a worldly save from Pickford keeping the scores level.

Everton’s goals were from us switching off which we will get out of our game moving forward. Not and easy game away to Everton and we have always struggled at their place over the years. A draw would have been a fair result…

The pant wetting has started remarkably early this season. After one game? Are we going for any records?

Now that the dust has settled it seems pretty obvious to me that what we witnessed yesterday was a continuation of the league form of last season's Glasner team - half decent first half with missed sitters and then a second half with tiring players and inattentive defenders and the opposition's gradual ascendency and dominance.
Being realistic one wouldn't expect Sage to turn us into a crack outfit immediately but time is of the essence.

Good first half lots of attacking intent same old poor finishing.

However Everton are our bogy team so I wasn't expecting anything yesterday.

Far too early to say we are in trouble. If we can get Sageball working it will be a great ride.

My one concern is teams are psychologically knocked by a goal just before half time, especially when they have been on top.. Unless the coach is able to lift them up during the break....
