Everton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Plaistow has a point: Parish knew long time that Glasner was going and somehow disastrously spunks up near on £90m for two mediocre players (completely out of character for Parish who usually has a tight grip on the purse strings), the reasoning being a debatable mystery. Zoom forward to the present day and the club has lost its one decent centre half and Parish is back to the bargain bin of free transfers and loans to pad out the squad. Poor Mr Sage has the unenviable task of knocking this rag tag bunch into a fighting fit Premiership outfit. We can only wish him luck.

With respect, I seem to recall that you and your chums formed a similar judgement down your local,of OG, ,who went on to become our most successful Manager ever.
I have no recollection if any such conversation in a local 'Public House'.
Glasner did arrive at our club having won the 'Europa League' with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Now Sarr and Mateta want out, Riad is going to be injured for a long time (again) and JLS is worth about 50p.

I think he has a pretty decent defence to say - this start ain't my fault.

I believe quite a few have already formed a judgement even before today's defeat.
The narrative I have heard is that Sage's career has seen him as a Youth Coach, a scout, an Assistant manager and that his First Team management is limited in terms of longevity. Someone opined that one stand-out season in France does not prepare one for the demands of the PL.
Some others were critical of the club in terms of recruitment etc and that the challenge Sage faces is somewhat gargantuan.
All true, and he's walking into a club on the decline in terms of the standard of playing staff compared to that which his predecessor inherited.

If the results reflect the reduced strength of the team then all the managers inexperience may suddenly seem like the issue, whether to the fans, the board, or the players.

Instead of being an inspired appointment that shows knowledge of the wider market, he'll look like he's totally out of his depth in the big, bad premier league.

It's not a stretch to imagine him being replaced, fairly or not, by a Dyche or whoever in such circumstances.

Sage really has his work cut out for him, as he has so little reputational standing in this country to fall back on if the team has a tough start.

One silver lining.....at least we won't lose too many bedwetters to electrocution at this stage of the season as it's still too hot at night to have the electric blanket on
Yeah but some of us like to piss in the toaster when palace lose, so it's not all plain sailing.

Although this may seem unduly harsh on Parish ( who has been brilliant for us) there's more than an element of truth in this.
That doesn't make me , to use that awful term 'a bed wetter,' it's just a recognition of the bleedin' obvious.
We seem very ill prepared for this season.
The club knew since last October that Glasner was going.
The club also were apparently aware of Lacroix's desire to move at the end of last season.
Our recent transfer windows remain an enigma wrapped in a mystery.

The club (and Parish).have done incredibly well since the return to the Premier League, but does that success mean that fans should therefore lose the right to question a seemingly muddled approach?
Ultimately we all want the team to do well, some with blind loyalty but others have a more questioning attitude when decisions appear puzzling.

We’re not going to have ANOTHER season of you just moaning about the manager being clueless & not knowing what he’s doing are we?
A couple of weeks ago, he said it has nothing to do with the manager and is all down to the players, that was after a season of moaning about how Glasner had the strongest squad we've ever had abd everything was the managers fault.

Riad unfortunately looks like he can’t go ten games without getting a serious injury. Shame for him and not his fault but honestly he has been a terrible signing. Same with Nketiah. Awful signing.

Look, what is the job of a manager, to get the best out of what he has, produce a team with minimal outlay and maximism what you have, McNeil and Pino are wide players, known for the quality of their crossing, JSL is a CF known for his heading, Mitchell is a class premier league LB, is it not common sense to build the team thus

Every preseason there is a list of things Parish, should not have done, should have done, was right about wrong about. We are still here.
It's a list that isn't accompanied by any behind the scenes information as to what he has done.

I'm also suspicious that he doesn't necessarily cover all the roles people think he does. Designing kits, cooking burgers and mopping up urine in the AW toilets whilst also scouting South America for hidden gems.

Not defending him by the way, I'm just not convinced I have enough facts to condemn him.

We can safely say he doesn't do emails or blind trusts.

We are still here, for all the critics over the years ,year after year we remain Premier league. What’s to condemn.?
