Mateta Contract

Dont play players who want away. Play Larsen, give him a run in the team and play to his strengths. If he fails try someone else like Franca, rinse repeat. Coleman played up front in 1992. Butterworth did and scored 3. Stranger things have happened.

I know he was paid far less then Nketiah, Kamada, JSL and various others. There was a period when he was scoring so often that it was ludicrous we didn’t offer him improved terms. I don’t know the exact figures but it’s simple that we would walk into the situation we are in now. The club has to accept some blame for this scenario.
 
The problems with Mateta began when he tried to manufacture a problem with Zaha.

Theres obviously 2 Mateta's the smiley jester for the cameras & disruptive bellend in the changing room.

Get rid.

I honestly feel sorry for Sage he's walked into a nightmare.

You have a copy of all these players contract do you?

Let me guess you are going by what a few web sites claim which are made up numbers.

He was offered new contracts and refused just like Guehi did.

He had 3 poor seasons and 3 good seasons which over those 3 good ones he has been declining.

If has tried taking action against the club to invalid his contract that speaks volumes about him so he cant even be bothered to wait until it expires.

I do think we treated him badly though. Should have signed him on a new deal two years ago. You can’t blame him for being pissed off when he’s scored all the goals but earns far less than those who contribute nothing.

How do we know we didn’t offer him a new contract? Surely it’s more likely we did it just wasn’t on the wages he can get elsewhere?

We’ve kept him to his original contract which he thought was a fair deal when he signed (when he was not an established top level striker).

He doesn’t owe us a new contract if we can’t afford what he can get elsewhere but we don’t owe him an early release either. Surely he only leaves before the end of his contract if it is the right thing for both parties?

It's pretty obvious that he would be on far less than the likes of Nketiah, Larsen etc as he joined as a relative unknown from a weaker league.

The only reason he is still on those reduced wages is that he turned down a contract improvement so he can wind down this contract and cash in by joining another club on a free transfer.

As I said in previous post, best thing now is just to get rid. Let's see if his new clubs fans are as forgiving as we were with his ability to miss open goals.

You were a c*** going nowhere in your career until Crystal Palace FC got hold of you and turned you into a decent player then you decide to treat us this way.

If all this legal action is true then I’d sound out how much people are willing to pay and make a choice with sage.

Mateta has done great things in a great palace team. Do I think he is bigger than us? Absolutely not. He is hit and miss. If Sarr and Mateta screw us over under the start of a new coach I hope our full support get behind sage and use this to motivate ourselves Neil warnock style. Time for a new era
 
If true regarding Mateta and Sarr get rid asap and get players in who want to play for us even if it means we get relegated ig time Charlie's!!!!
 
So if I'm reading correctly, this was ages ago, has been resolved and he's playing now? Wouldn't surprise me if this was when he was trying to force a move to Milan?

Very odd for him to be such an integral part of the team now if this was still hanging about

we were negotiating a new contract with him around the time of the 5-0 win against villa. He wasn't doing the corner flag celebration in protest at the poor terms he was being offered.
 
Don't sell him unless a suitable offer comes in, but don't play him if one doesn't. He's made it clear he doesn't want to play for Palace anymore and having someone like that in the first team will be toxic for the environment. He can train and play with the U21s if he must play.

This has happened in the last month I understand. Been offered multiple contracts and believe another one on the table now.
He wants out and can go - £20m plus £60m for Sarr. We will come out stronger I think although slim chance Edouard could get signed in their place 😂🤦🏻‍♂️
 
The whole dressing room is starting to give the impression that it stinks. For how positively everyone spoke about it for the past couple of years, suddenly everyone thinks they're entitled to play up.

You have to get the rats out before it turns toxic and too big to handle - you see how long it took United to recover from it.

Mateta shouldn't be moaning - his big chance conversion over the past 2 years is embarrassingly bad. Misses a hatful then sits on the bus saying he's too good to be here. What must the rest of the team think?

As always, we're doing it in the last weeks of the window. Try and get £20m for him and then we're stuck with whoever is available last minute. Liam Delap maybe?
