Nigel Martyn

Several years ago David Moyes commented that Martyn was his greatest ever signing for Everton.
Mikel Arteta was on Loan to Everton from Real Sociedad when Martyn was at the club.
Martyn was resident in Shirley when he played for our club.
A thoroughly decent human being.
Saw him a few times in the Sandrock pub in Shirley. At the time I did wonder if he lived locally.

when we used to go regularly, mrs had an autograph book.
spoke with Nigel M in players lounge and came back with
" Arsenal are s***"
signed nigel martyn.
🙂
top guy.

we used to sponser 'killer' Pattersons kit around same time possibly?

We were unlucky that night. The difference was Paul Gascoigne. He was fantastic that game….It was around the time of Italia ‘90.
Still one of the best players I’ve ever seen at Selhurst and always in my best England team of all time
I went up to Newcastle when they beat us in the fa cup and he scored the winner, he stood out then as well

Long range volley - only goal of the game - top corner - looked freezing (I saw the highlights on tv) - 1988. We had the gold away kit and there was not a snood in sight on either team. Annoyingly I remember it well thinking "George Wood is over the hill - FFS how did he not get to that he had about 15 minutes to move 4 metres?".

In truth it was a superb strike and I remember thinking the same about David Seaman several years later ("is he going to have a crack? He is, you know...").

We were sitting in a temporary scaffold stand long before their ground looked like it does now. It was a great strike from Gazza, he actually missed an easy chance right in front of us and our whole end went up with the wanker sign, but Gazza being Gazza took it in good humour
