Several years ago David Moyes commented that Martyn was his greatest ever signing for Everton.
Mikel Arteta was on Loan to Everton from Real Sociedad when Martyn was at the club.
Martyn was resident in Shirley when he played for our club.
A thoroughly decent human being.

There wasn't on his debut - a 2-3 home loss to Spurs following a lot of hype given he was the first £1million goalkeeper.

I still remember the Ceefax headline when I got back home: "Gascoigne magic completes Martyn misery" in massive white font at the top of the page.

Remember watching him save a penalty when he was playing for Leeds at Selhurst Park. The Palace fans all started chanting ‘Dodgy keeper’. He turned the to the crowd with a smile from ear to ear. Came across as a lovely fella!

One of those matches where the lead swung this way and that - Mark Bright got a brace for us from memory - but there was a cruel deflected free kick late on and that sealed the 2-3 win for Spurs.

We were unlucky that night. The difference was Paul Gascoigne. He was fantastic that game….It was around the time of Italia ‘90.

I think that was the same season where when we played them away, Gascoigne scored a direct free kick at our end (Park Lane) while big Nige was still trying to arrange his wall, and wasn't ready.
