Dear old Nige has been picked for the senior England Cricket Team! He will become one of the few sportsmen that have represented an England team in both football and cricket. Good man!

Thanks Nigel 😊I watched a podcast interview with him recently and he did say his first love was cricket when growing up and he played to a high level
Bless him, I owe him a lot, one of the three Nigel’s that made it cool to be called Nigel after years of ridicule for myself 😎🤣

Several years ago David Moyes commented that Martyn was his greatest ever signing for Everton. Was one of my heroes growing up.
Everton and Leeds fans speak equally high of him, one of the games true greats.

Nothing compared to the only famous Nigel when I was a kid being Nigel Ponsomby-Smallpiece, one of Ken Dodds diddy men…….although you could say there’s not a lot of difference 🤣and then Farage turned up and ruined it for you all again

There wasn't on his debut - a 2-3 home loss to Spurs following a lot of hype given he was the first £1million goalkeeper.Nothing compared to the only famous Nigel when I was a kid being Nigel Ponsomby-Smallpiece, one of Ken Dodds diddy men…….although you could say there’s not a lot of difference 🤣

I was at that game.Gascoigne never netted but was brought down for the penalty and Lineker scored from the spot. There wasn't on his debut - a 2-3 home loss to Spurs following a lot of hype given he was the first £1million goalkeeper.
I still remember the Ceefax headline when I got back home: "Gascoigne magic completes Martyn misery" in massive white font at the top of the page.

Perhaps one of the most iconic matches in our history. I was there and will never forget the incredible atmosphere 🙏With the ball safely in Nige’s hands John Motson came out with one of the greatest lines in our history.‘There’s a minute to go at Villa Park. Crystal Palace are that close to Wembley. To putting out the holders and the favourites Liverpool. To destroying the dream of the double’ CAN THEY HOLD ON ?’

I remember in that game, Mark Dennis running the length of the pitch to get involved in a scrap with Gazza………I’d like to say completely out of character for Mark Dennis, but that would be a lie🤣There wasn't on his debut - a 2-3 home loss to Spurs following a lot of hype given he was the first £1million goalkeeper.

One of those matches where the lead swung this way and that - Mark Bright got a brace for us from memory - but there was a cruel deflected free kick late on and that sealed the 2-3 win for Spurs.I remember in that game, Mark Dennis running the length of the pitch to get involved in a scrap with Gazza………I’d like to say completely out of character for Mark Dennis, but that would be a lie🤣

We were unlucky that night. The difference was Paul Gascoigne. He was fantastic that game….It was around the time of Italia ‘90.One of those matches where the lead swung this way and that - Mark Bright got a brace for us from memory - but there was a cruel deflected free kick late on and that sealed the 2-3 win for Spurs.

I think that was the same season where when we played them away, Gascoigne scored a direct free kick at our end (Park Lane) while big Nige was still trying to arrange his wall, and wasn't ready. We were unlucky that night.
