Palace team vs SC Freiburg

Monsieur Sage has stated that we are not prepared to play his system.
I sense some disquiet amongst our supporters as the season approaches.
Which raises the questions, Is his way drastically different? Did we need to change much? Will his efforts to change what has become routine for most of the players fall on baron ground.?

How many Freiburg players were at the WC? They may well have been playing for a place in the starting XI where most of ours were still getting minutes in their legs from a late return or return form injury. We've had great pre-seasons and bad starts to the real thing and vice versa.
5 and they didnt play a lot of minutes.

With regards to formation and Sage’s way of playing I’m seeing the No 9 and the two No 10’s playing more tight in the middle together. There isn’t much movement? We seem to struggle to find them quick enough as they are tightly marked. Also the right side wingback has been too far forward (no man’s land) and hasn’t been able to support the defence leaving massive gaps which has caused goals against and lots of chances. I thought it was just Cardines not being good enough but our new Spanish signing has been just as lost. In truth, even Mitchell has looked poor. It’s not looking good for this Saturday :-(

We have not won at Everton in our last 12 games against them.
Our last win at Everton was back in September 2014.

Not sure I believe in those type of reasons as to why you win or not against teams. Down to form when the match happens and of course the quality of the team you play against. Watford were better than Southampton yesterday but had gone a long time since beating them. I’m expecting a defeat this Saturday purely because we look so poor at this time :-(

Since that win at Goodison in 2014, we have won just 1 out of 23 (yes 23) league games against them (at home when Lampard was manager and we thrashed them in the cup that year as well). so in the league 1 win, 10 draws and 12 defeats. I think we know what's coming on Saturday. In fact, I am more optimistic about the following Friday home game against a City team in transition.

Frank De Boer had a dour demeanour and he wasn't at the helm for long !
The same thought has occurred to me Willlo. Let's hope he cheers up when we beat Everton. We really don't want to go through another short term management fiasco which would disrupt our whole season.

I too do not attach too much relevance to past results, I was just providing a statistic.
You asserted that we "Look so poor", I have no idea how Everton have been faring in their preparations.
I will add that Sage is not sending out positive signals in his messaging.

They are a jinx team to us they some how get a result against us , number of games we have out played them and some how beat us or draw , every team has one , you say form how have we beaten man city and liverpool ,
Aston Villa don't like playing us at the moment ,

I wouldn't say its drastically but there are 2 main differences (from stuff I've seen or read)

In attack, our 2 10's will play with more width than under OG. So we'll be looking to be more expansive and create overloads on the wings.

In defence we'll be looking to press high and win the ball back early (vs Glasners low block). This requires practice to learn the press triggers and how to press effectively as a team, vs just charging around a lot.

I have not formed the opinion that Sage is a jolly japester.
He has not given me the impression of being a lighthouse of joy.
Perhaps we will witness a different Sage with a string of good results.

He could run around like Jerry Lewis full of blue Smarties or act like Van Morrison with a tax bill for all I care. As long as we win.

To have managed a team playing as well as Lens, Sage, must have something to offer us. Can our squad respond enough in the short term is the real question.?
A lot will depend on just how different Sages tactics differ from those the group are used to under Glasner.

If youre flying out for a friendly match and getting aggy over a result that's on you mate.
firstly, I didn't.. the comment was an example of why someone would be upset with the performance... not the result.

A result can not go our way, but you want to see passion, ideas, giving it a go.. which evidently was missing for that game.
