Main Stand redevelopment thread

I am very worried about the next 4-5 years with potential spiralling costs and project overrun. Meanwhile no money for proper player investment could leave us in relegation danger. I maintain that we didn't need a vanity project mega stand; for a lot less money we could have redeveloped both main stands in a style that complemented the Holmesdale.
Give over.

It will be a much needed improvement to the stadium and the club's image.

Thinking small is for clubs who wish to remain small.

I think thats a load of rubbish on so many levels. Yes costs will likely spiral. This will have been factored in as best as possible. Will the playing staff budget be affected by this project? No. The club knows what it has to spend and controls its budget probably better than most clubs.
As for thinking the Main Stand is a vanity project and believing we could have done the Main and Arthur to match the Holmesdale for LESS money is laughable. Even if that were true you obviously dont understand how massively important Corporate boxes and entertainment are in the modern game. We can only get close to the kind of money Arsenal and Spurs make on match days with a new state of the art Main stand. Theres nothing vain about it. We need some class to attract more matchday revenue. Arsenal and Spurs literally make millions on a matchday with their facilities. We cant match that even with a new Main stand but we'll quadruple what we make now.

Just to add that a lot of it is falling apart.

Our owners are worth 19 billion, I wouldn't worry too much.

I've given up trying to solve the finances at Palace based on two factors:
1) I don't have all the facts and am therefore not qualified to voice an opinion
2) The club don't read my emails

It's all happening.

Two and a half years of this, and when it's finished, it will be like it was always there after a few months.

People need to stop coming out with that line.

Because a person is claimed to have a worth of something doesn't mean they have disposable income or funds free.

Looks at SJ he was worth a fair amount when owning the club but it was tied up in other things and we all know how that turned out.

The other thing you got to question is these people are worth so much money and have no issue pumping it into US sports yet they wont even fund a single stand for Palace in fact they wouldn't even fund the Academy Tex did that.

You would think it would be in best interest for these two to front up 500-600mil on a new stadium over paying 200-50m on one stand (Is it because they cant do it?)

If you're worth 19 billion, even in assets, they can get as much money as they want, the banks would be begging to chuck it at them, at interest rates we could only dream of. They can definitely afford a 200 million pound stand.

Yeah, they could certainly afford it but what would they want in return? What level of shareholding/voting rights would they be looking for? How much control would SP be willing to relinquish?

Not sure what the deal would be, im hoping it'll be like bloom and brighton, completely interest free, tho I doubt it. They'll probably use it to make money from the club. Hopefully they wont want too much of a return untill they sell, tho its not gonna increase our value by 200 mill.

Generally people with a lot of money, don't like spending it, unless there is something in it for them. They prefer using other people's money, a good example is the Glaziers at Man Utd, they increased the debt of the club and made loads of money from doing so, without any investment of their own.
Don't expect our American owners to throw money at the club, they will only invest something, if their overall investment is at risk ie relegation.

Not always true, especially in sport. Why do teams compete in Formula 1 ? Do I think our American owners are in it for the love of the game, no, but as investors they seem okay and are generally happy leaving it all to Parish to worry about. As many issues as we've had developing the new stand ive never heard money being one, obviously they're not stupid and will look at the most cost efficient way of building it.

Thing is, they haven't put their hands in their pockets for the stand (the club is paying for it and has taken out a loan).

They might as well be skint if they aren't going to spend any of their money on infrastructure projects at Palace which, unlike player transfers and wages, they are allowed to spend freely on under FFP.

I do take your point that, should we be relegated, you'd hope having rich owners would provide some protection against the pain of the far lower income and attendances, but how would that work? I mean, they could pay off the loan I suppose, but if they were minded to do that then surely they'd have paid for the stand already?
