Without meaning to insult anyone I suspect this is as much an age thing as anything. Those of us who remember London in the seventies will know it could be a pretty hairy place where violence was a common experience on many occasions, not just football matches or pubs, but a willingness to accept that reality in your twenties tends to diminish as you get older. And not just because running away isn't as easy.
Like most major cities anywhere in the world, if you actively seek trouble or act like a knobhead you’ll find it. If you go about your normal business the chances of any sort of crime happening to you are minuscule at best.

Yes but what I mean is that your willingness and ability to deal with any trouble tends not to be the same after another forty + years.
From my own experience the chances weren't miniscule back then but everyone coped.

One of the last threads I posted on got a mod bollocking, so i posted quotes leading up to my post which the mods called out listing names and what they said. It was a tirade of leftist style abuse and insults, all off topic, all ignored by admins.
You have a trail of testimony from people here about the place, so getting banned there simply means you aren't left wing and aren't sheepish.

Interesting story here. I think you will find the attempted burglary was at Farages home. Maybe explains why Police didn’t pursue it with much vigour. If they had, perhaps poor Ann Widdecombe would still be alive
