Im disgusted. We have always given young flair players a chance now all of a sudden they has been a shift to get robotic dross like brennan johnson. Im seriously thinking the club has lost its way. Anyone thinking he has been given a fair shake is being disingenuous. I wonder if Roy was the gaffer there would be no chance he'd be sold.....

Roy who was of course famous for giving opportunities to young flair players who lacked discipline and positional awareness…

When Johnson last played in the championship, he managed 16 goals as a 19/20 year old and he’s never have had to take a loan back there.

I’m no Johnson fan, but Esse is not in the same category as it stands - we don’t have to drag his time with us out because he’s a South Londoner who fits the profile of a Palace player.

If Roy was the gaffer there'd be no chance Esse would get in the 1st team squad.

It's not about flair, it's about being able to carry out your directed role.

Maybe you like managers who just let it happen and don't require players to do that.

You don't tend to find those managers in the Premier league.

Esse may well come good, but he has to grow up mentally first and I think he's just one of those players who has stalled when he needed to progress.

Like a university student who leaves with their degree thinking they have cracked it before they even start their job.

Where I would differ from you is that your post suggests Esse has sufficient talent, and that if only he could develop the appropriate mindset he'd be good enough for the palace first team. I've seen a few posts to that effect.

I haven't seen this natural talent in Esse. I don't see any real signs of quality there. I've looked back at his best bits at Millwall (at least as far as YouTube has them) and whilst he's not incapable of being effective, at least at that level, I couldn't see what the club saw in him.

I wonder sometimes if they had just decided to sign a young up and coming player from the championship as it had worked so well before, but without really assessing the individual player.

He came highly recommended but has stalled so perhaps there is accuracy to your observation.

We can only watch from afar to see how he does once sold.

It's certainly true that some players fail at clubs but then succeed at others.

Indeed, time will tell.
I for one wish him well, if only insofar as I have some sympathy for the view that Glasner could and should have managed him better by keeping his criticisms private. I thought that was poor. A bad rep seems to have attached itself to the kid thereafter, and I've no idea if he really deserves it.
