It does seem a bit strange.
We were willing to buy Dwight McNeil for reputedly £10 million plus in January, and also loaned Guessand with a view to buying him for £20 plus million in.the summer.
Although neither deal happened, presumably the funds were there if necessary.
Since then we've won a European competition with the additional revenue accrued from this as well as having continued participation in Europe confirmed.
We've also taken in £55 million plus for Lacroix and Imray.
We supposedly didn't want Disai, but since we couldn't conclude Mitsuma, apparently he's now back on our radar.
Otherwise we've signed one free transfer and may consider another in Tomiyasu.

? If you're talking about Mingueza, he came from Celta Vigo in Spain.
Thanks for pointing out my confusion. I was answering one thread whilst thinking that Sage was not getting due recognition in another! Celta Vigo are probably a similar level to Palace and we may meet up in the Europa

It's not bad, is it. But what this does show is a dearth of leadership amongst the group. Hughes and Hendo aside, there's no natural leaders, so that's what I'd be looking at bringing in now.

If we are going to have a good season, I really think we need a top player to play on the left. Pino could be that man, but last season he struggled to make a big impact in the PL. Johnson is even worse on the left than the right, and Kamada should only play there again if there are no other options. Drakes-Thomas looks exciting, but it's a lot to expect him to have a major part yet. Although neither made a big impact, Guessand and Uche have both left the club, so we now have two fewer attacking options than at the end of the season.

We would look a much more balanced team with a genuine left sided threat , preferably one with pace and power who can get away from defenders.
Pino is a good footballer, but more of a 'schemer. '

Leo Scienza of Southampton can be deployed on either flank
His dribbling and ball carrying ability is admirable and he is a set-piece specialist.
Will Still signed him from Heidenheim for £8.5 Million.
He first came to my attention at the end of last season during Southampton's excellent run.
I was impressed by his footwork, dribbling skillls and desire to push forward from the left.
Personally I would prefer a more physical and powerful option who is adept with his left foot (Scienza plays off his right foot), but I agree that he's a good player.
