I just think that with the fact that we spent a lot on Larsen and Johnson who lets face it haven't done great. With European football again this season but in a more competitive cup, we won't be spending big so should at least look at some free players with experience behind them to improve our squad size. Otherwise we could end up doing a Portsmouth or Bolton and struggle in the league due to fatigue.

If Mateta leaves and we replace him with a guy who managed 5 goals in 41 games in the Championship last season, we might as well pack it in.

I appreciate the effort, but I don't think there's much value at all to be found at that end of the market.
Ok fair enough with the Daka one. I may have cocked up there 🤣 But I still think that with the amount we paid for Larsen and Johnson we are going to be running a bit thin when it comes to league, cups and Europe.

His last contract was £250k a week, so how much are we paying for someone to be a back up/cup player?

If we say Chadi Riad is the player currently filling that role for us, he's on £30k a week...

Should avoid. We dont need him, and if we did he'd be injured.

Would rather we find the next Riad/Canvot and invest there.

He managed 18 matches for Man City last season and 5 matches for England in the World Cup. I'm not saying he should replace any of our current centre backs but he would be a good back up/cup player and also can play on the right if required. I agree, if he is fit.
I can't see Stones agreeing to come to the likes of Palace to be a squad player. If he were to come then it would be to replace one of our existing 1st XI CDs. I don't want that. Yes we need one more CD (and 2 if Lacroix goes) but i would want another young talent and if required, a good established one from one of the other big 5 leagues in Europe (France, Germany, Italy or Spain)

We're probably sniffing round 'spoons for players.
We put a poster up in The George, but since they started renovating nobody's actually seen it...

So after signing Mingueza on a free I was curious as to who is currently available for free who could be an asset for us. Obviously wages play a massive part as well as the signing on fee but here are a few I personally would take to strengthen the squad especially as we have European football again.

Dusan Vlahovic (Huge long shot)
Malang Sarr (Relationship with Sage)
Jadon Sancho (Rediscover form)
John Stones
Yves Bissouma
Lorenzo Pellegrino (Euro experience)
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Dani Cebellos
Adama Traore
Patson Daka
Axel Tuanzebe (Backup)
Mauro Icardi (Scores for fun)
Tyrell Malacia
Takehiro Tomiyasu (Prem experience)
I would take Traore, Bissouma, Malang, Zinchenko, Ayew, and/or Tomiyasu. I've made no secret of my admiration of Adama Traore in the past. All are good options to pick up on a free IMO.

It seems we are currently looking at Tomiyasu, with him training with Pierre and the lads right now. Having picked up Oscar on a free already, it could be one tactic we're looking at in this window, and I don't mind that very much, so long as wages & sign-ons are not too high.

I'd do the same here except the chances of finding another Kenny Dalglish in our 'spoons are very slight. More likely to end up with Mad Jimmy McBoozebag and his stabby ways.

I knew I was making sense when I wrote this post 🤣 I definitely would not be against Tomiyasu. I think he would be a very solid addition to the squad without having to cough up and overinflated price. Defya sensible option. As for Traore, I have to agree with you. I am also a fan of his. He speed and strength I think I would definitely be an asset.

Adama Traore has 14 goals in his 271 Prem games across his career - he averages just over a goal every 20 games.

With no offense intended to those who rate him, I find it absolutely bizarre that he still gets touted - I know he's an absolute monster physically, but he's never really been effective at this level, despite 5 PL clubs trying to make it work previously.

Sadly, I have to agree. With his physique and speed he should have done much much better than he has. He seems to make so many poor decisions once he's done the hard work. Avoid.

For rugby league, maybe, but I have never been wholly convinced by him as a footballer.

Right physique, wrong game.
