I completely understand the idea that it would be best if Johnson can regain his confidence, which he surely by now must have lost, and that support and game time are required for it to happen.

Thing is, what is the cost of that? As galling as it would be to see £35m and however many millions in wages go to waste if Johnson was left out regularly, the cost of having him in the team is possibly higher. It's like playing with ten men, he is so utterly anonymous. How many premier league games can we do that for, before we pay a far higher price?

Lots of players start slowly, need time to adjust, or do better under a different coach, but most of them offset their modest contributions by putting a shift in, like Sarr did, or having the courage to get on the ball even though it's not happening for them, like the (frankly hapless at times) Pino. Johnson is just a void where a footballer should be.

I suspect the 'Status Quo' could well be the catalyst for the wheels of negotiation with other clubs turning, the outcome financially not being in our favour.Time will tell.

Indeed. Every single one of em in the league are paid way too much. Almost every single transfer fee is way over the top too, in real world terms. Still, as a club we have to play the game we find in front of us as we find it.

Fair point, and let's hope so.

Of course, we didn't pay anything like as much for Mateta or Kamada, so there perhaps wasn't quite the same pressing need for them to come good. Plus, neither had lived or worked in this country and league before so perhaps they were expected to acclimatise more gradually.

Even so, you are right of course, players can improve.

hes shite he cost upwards of 35 million on the basis he was prem proven and ready to seamlessly fit in. The excuses need to stop, hes not a young player anymore.

His overall play is poor, his dribbling clunky. He cannot play with Ismaila Sarr due to his lack of technical ability. So I'm guessing he is competition to sarr. Has anyone looked at the goals he scored for spuds everyone is trusting small group of spuds saying they was tap in far post , you really need to watch , we would have loved that version for us , but he was broken good thats Thomas Frank for you at bigger club , if he is still not firing by xmas then yes part with him , lets see if he can start playing under sage
