welcome to Brennan Johnson

I completely understand the idea that it would be best if Johnson can regain his confidence, which he surely by now must have lost, and that support and game time are required for it to happen.

Thing is, what is the cost of that? As galling as it would be to see £35m and however many millions in wages go to waste if Johnson was left out regularly, the cost of having him in the team is possibly higher. It's like playing with ten men, he is so utterly anonymous. How many premier league games can we do that for, before we pay a far higher price?

Lots of players start slowly, need time to adjust, or do better under a different coach, but most of them offset their modest contributions by putting a shift in, like Sarr did, or having the courage to get on the ball even though it's not happening for them, like the (frankly hapless at times) Pino. Johnson is just a void where a footballer should be.

Time.

Spend £30m+ and they shouldn't need time

Whenever we spend big they flop, we shouldn't do it

It's rarely worked out well. For one thing, it usually involves a player stepping down to us, and they are usually not quite as hungry as those stepping up.

In fairness to the club, though, if they just kept on buying small and selling big, we'd all be fuming. I feel like both Johnson and Larsen were signings intended to show us, the squad, and the world that whilst we may be obliged to sell our best players due to contracts expiring, we don't need to sell otherwise and want to replace quality and experience with the same.

Not that we have.

the problem we now have with BJ is that along with the excessive transfer fee, is his high wages.

The reports are that is in on over £100k a week.

So even if say a newly promoted team such as Ipswich bid £20m for him his wages would probably be double their top earner.
He has a long contract with us so will not be taking a pay cut anytime soon.

In the short term our only hope is that Sage can get a tune out of him, and/or he could be used as an impact sub as his pace should be an asset in the final 20 minutes of games (as long as he doesn't hide!)
Could be worse I guess. Grealish is on £300k a week and can’t get near the Citeh first team.

The biggest positive I can muster so far for Johnson is that he's unlikely to get booed...due to him barely ever getting a touch of the ball during a game.

Like everyone I hope that he improves but with every game that goes by it's looking less and less likely. Tbh I'd currently be picking 17yr old Drakes-Thomas ahead of him.
Imagine if Sage went out of his way not to know the cost and previous experience of any of our players, and just picked on merit based on performance in training and in friendlies.

Aside from being impossible, and pretty mad, it would be interesting to see how the teamsheet was affected. Very difficult to see how Johnson would get in.

Some highly rated players drop off a cliff and never regain their form , even when they are only in their twenties.
Look e.g at Dele Ali, Calvin Philips, Tom Ince and Harry Winks.
I don’t believe Johnson has had the injury or personal problems of some of these, but the fact remains that these players never recovered their form.
I hope Johnson doesn’t join that club.

Sadly, he may already have done so.

I'd rather play with ten men.
Utterly useless, lazy Pratt.
There must be something going on with him that we haven't been told. Frankly, I don't care or want to know about it anyway.
I get the useless part as his form from a couple of years ago has deserted him but lazy? Cant agree with that. I'd say the opposite at times. Runs round like a headless chicken. Maybe trying too hard.
For this reason I do sympathize with him. It just isn't clicking.
Its not beyond the realms of possibility that he could come good but this season for him is massive. Another bad one and its Championship here I come for Brennan.

He pulls out of everything and I don't see him busting a gut.

Have to say early career he looked great. I don't watch Spurs matches in general however.
