I agree that Drakes Thomas has potential, but the other youngsters look more destined to have a career at possibly a lower level.
Is this harsh at such an early stage?
Possibly, but that appears to be the case with the likes of Ozoh, JRS, Imray, Adamarolah and the young goalkeepers.
The likes of Rodney have already left.
It is a reality for us that very few come through to first team level via the youth team route.
It's also a fact that when there is an outstanding prosoect they are likely to be poached as happened with Chelsea for Derry.
More broadly we will get fees for some of the outgoings, and this is not an attempt to decry our youth policy or the cost of it.
It's more an attempt to highlight the difficulties in getting a player or two through to first team level.

I think we all know whatever signings we make, we’ll have a half decent first choice eleven(hopefully) but once the inevitable injuries and suspensions kick in we’ll look weak, because we’re not Man City Chelsea Arsenal etc who can have a couple of good players for every position

And 4 for Whitworth is harsh given some of the poor defending in front of him.
It's hard to read too much into these kind of games. Palace should have been a couple to the good by half time. Bromley then took their chances in the second half. It could easily have been a 3-3 draw.
Looking at other individuals, if we can get a decent fee for Nketiah then I think we should take it. Johnson did nothing to suggest he's about to rediscover any form. Rak-Sakyi needs to move on , he's a Championship player at best.

Watched it yesterday thought Canvot looks like he’s kicked on
again in terms of physicality and performance. Looked our best player. That aside not really another perfect of note - Dacoure rusty which is to be expected - Drakes Thomas has potential as does Imray. We 100% need a cm that can start, Hughes, Devenny, doucoure and lerma are a massive drop off from the Wharton kamada pairing.

Very true, Doucoure is unlikely to rediscover the levels of performance required.
The Bromley match was a game tailor made for someone like Esse. The fact he looked lost and was getting bullied off the ball so easily again speaks volumes. No way is he Premier League material (sadly).

Yeah I was really hoping he could show early in pre-season (before most of the squad were back) that he deserved a place in the squad. But, its not looking like it.
Agree with mostly all of the comments. Even if it was only a friendly, and the way i saw it (on Palace TV) we really were very friendly, i was really disappointed with the second half pairing of Ozoh & Doucoure. Add Nkhetia & Johnson (ok yes I know;-)), to lose the half 0-3 is so poor. By the way, where is Wharton? I mean, he had plenty of time-off. If Monsieur Sage is learning anything from the first friendlies it's who is not up to the required standard.

The problem seemed to me to be players, with some exceptions, trying not to make mistakes or in a few instances trying too hard. Look at Esse and Drakes-Thomas. The former not prepared to take on a man whilst DT happy to give it a go and create something for the team. Zaha was always prepared to take someone on and lost the ball many times. It didn’t faze him. Esse seems scarred by the dressing down Glasner gave him at Liverpool and needs Sage to rebuild his confidence.
I think people are too critical of Ozoh. He was an exciting prospect at 18 but was hit by a series of injuries losing at least a year of development. Roy rarely showed confidence in young players but played him in Premier League matches. His cameo performance away to Man City showed that he is not a player to write off yet.

Some good points about Esse. Some players are later developers too. A full Championship season might still be worth a try - perhaps same for Rak-Sakyi. However, if any ten mil offers were to come in, I think we would sell.
