I shouldn't laugh but when you think about Wisbech Eagle's likely situation coming up.....with property taxes and other wealth taxes being what Burnham looks likely to do.......Well, If what he says is true about his wealth then Burnham is likely to be specifically coming after people like him.

He's been slagging off the right wing and praising the left and social liberals ever since he came on here.

The social liberals are going to be dipping into his pockets.

Farage, who he hates, wouldn't have done it to him......It's the people he supported on here.

Oh the irony.

Burnham didn't promise not to raise taxes. It's the first thing he's going to do. He'll frame it as needing it for the defence expenditure that the Tories stripped away. We'll hear all about the wicked, awful Tories again.

Meh, I put up with much worse on the BBS. It's a left wing site, I accept that I will be challenged but I don't pretend to be the victim in all of it. Me and you are probably not that much different to each other in this regard, just polar opposites on the political spectrum. You really are on the wrong Palace forum if you don't like being the political minority, you'd fit in terrifically on the BBS with the usual suspects. If not, learn to accept that you are going to have plenty of rebuttals here, this is very much the right wing majority forum.

Also, Silvertop made the point that we shouldn't complain about Burnham unless he does something that wasn't in the Labour manifesto.

But to be fair to Burnham, he wasn't an MP who campaigned for that manifesto......So the point that he has to stick to it is somewhat tenuous......I agree it's a pretty poor situation but that's where we are.

We certainly have the right to complain about Burnham coming to power on two valid fronts.....firstly on the left's double standard and huge criticisms, calls for general elections and stamping of feet when the Tories did it.....and second on the fact that he's PM without even having been an MP at the general election and so has no manifesto mandate.
 
If there is one thing I've observed about champagne socialists, is that they will make great play about being moral people themselves. They will advocate for all the expensive social policies and all the spending and borrowing.

But privately they will look to pay as little tax as humanly possible.

Because the reality is that....to paraphrase something Musk said, it's not about being actual good people, it's about being perceived as good people......and the waffle costs them nothing....as usual it goes back to the ancient adage of deeds meaning much more than words.
 
Even just the use of the term ‘champagne socialist’ shows such a GCSE level of debate.

Plenty of people with wealth quite happily pay their taxes and recognise that those with more should be expected to help those with less.

You know its policies in which you believe in that lead to stuff like this. I genuinely cannot wait for the day these piss-taking scam artists are raided and routinely kicked out of the country. I think I might actually book a day off work to just go down to Heathrow or Gatwick to wave them off.

An interesting debate. Trying to find the ‘right’ amount to tax people to maximise revenues is something every government in the world has been trying to do ever since taxes were invented!

I certainly don’t think any tax rate exceeding 50% on anything is fair - no government should ever get more of your money than you do.

His property empire is significantly exaggerated, no surprise there. That being said, would be schadenfreude for all his nonsense
