Main Stand redevelopment thread

I expect there is no relevant information to give. The new stand is being built over the old stand in phase one, so it wont effect ST holders for sometime. As timelines can change, I expect information will be given nearer the time, when dates can be confirmed.
As for being rude?

Looks like they are going softly softly with the demolition to keep the near by residents happy. They could have done that in a day with a wrecking ball.

It is oddly entertaining to see visual evidence of the progress. Keep it coming I say.

They can't be sure of timescale. Work get delayed regularly by weather and other logistical issues.

My guess is that season ticket holder will be moved to the Arthur Waite for the period when the new terracing and seating is installed and the stand is road tested and signed off, unless, they end up doing it in the closed season. I doubt that would be enough time.

We might even have no away fans for that period, who knows.

I assume the FA wouldn't allow us to preclude away fans? Give them hard hats and deckchairs
 
Didn't the club say that no main stand seats would be lost during the build? That's one of the complications, building the new stand around the old one so that we don't have a reduced capacity and nobody has to move. Well, nobody has to move until the final stage, when the old stand seating area is fully demolished and replaced by the lower tier of the new stand, although I thought they planned to do that in a summer.

The only issue I can see is whether existing main stand season ticket holders will get first refusal on the nearest equivalent seat in the new stand.

Just in case there is a single living Palace supporter who somehow hasn't seen it, this shows the intended order of events...


There has been some talk of using concrete instead of steel since this video was released, but no suggestion that the basic plan would change.

Also, if the video is anything to go by the main stand demolition and new lower tier would seemingly have to happen in summer as the work would be undertaken from the pitch.

Maybe , when the time comes, the summer pitch side availability can be extended by playing the last 4 games of the season & the first 4 of the next season away ? (I think Liverpool did something similar)

It really depends on delays to the schedule. I would imagine they will have a contingency plan for all eventualities.

Ever the pessimist, playing the last four games of the season away may not be such a good idea in the event we are in a relegation scrap!

Sorry but they are much bigger and better supported than all of those clubs .

I see no other choice than to start a rebuild with the main stand while we have borrowing power, it may be a long time before Palace have the same chance again if ever.

i think your memory is not great.
The season we went up as Champions 93/94 under Smith we often got crowds under 15k, half the capacity of Selhurst (as we still had the Holmesdale terrace). In March that year we played Charlton and got 14k, as an example. They weren't terrible in relation to the previous seasons as we often only got 15k against the non top 6 or London teams when in the top flight, as Noades used to moan.

The reason gates are usually healthy first season after relegation is due to season ticket sales - which are sometimes released before the previous season has ended. With Palace's now waiting list for a season ticket the first year will definitely be ok, the few years afterwards will be the challenge.

Stoke is the perfect example. 28k capacity which sold out every week in the Prem. Now often get low 20s
