The Politics of 'Climate-change'

I don't think many here deny climate change. It's more the politics of it that includes taxing us more and then the double standards of the elites lecturing us, while taking their private jets and boats around the world.
Plus the persecution of a little old lady in Cheam, cos she didnt install a solar panel & buy an electric car.

Meanwhile 3 billion people, in the Third World, burn whatever & whenever they wish. And also drive whatever smokey old banger they have.

Exactly. I refuse to wear th hair shirt.

If I buy an item and Option 1 is bad for the environment and option 2 is just as good and costs the same then of course I will go option 2.

Unfortunately very view items fall into this category. We are being told to dump our gas boilers for expensive noisy and inefficient eco replacements, the same with cars etc.

Climate change is happening. Scientific fact.

In politics it's an excuse to raise taxes but do nothing worthwhile. An excuse to morph the manufacturing industry to generate jobs and raise people's expenditure.

The ridiculous nature of policy:
Shall we fine Los Angeles for breaching air quality standards and emissions with their wild fires ?
Do the missiles and tanks of Russia and Ukraine run on bio-fuels so they are better for the environment ?

We're all going to die, but more likely from nuclear warfare than anything else.
There is quite a bit to unpack so first statement my question is do we endeavour to mitigate climate change or just ignore it?

Mitigate our less than 1% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions.
This is the point, we are meaningless on the global stage in this and so many other issues, our time as a power has gone.

What we excel in is posing and posturing as influencers the world will look to for leadership

How much taxpayers money is wasted sending legions of people employed by the taxpayer to useless conferences in nice locations with 5 star hotels.

Sad Dick Khant is particularly keen at wasting the local tax money in London on overseas jaunts he thinks prop up his self importance.

Climate change is natural.

People are being mislead to believe that it is all down to humans which is a straight up lie.

If you look into the real research not the made up epidemiology models which have been built to suit there agenda its all a big money making scam just like the scamdemic was (That last one didnt work out as well as they hoped but still allowed a lot of changed they wanted which otherwise wouldn't have passed)

Should we try to become more efficient 100% yes but there is no real intent in that.

This country has still not even taken proper action to solve energy issues even Boris before he went I believe it was 2022 if not before had laid out solid plans which was ready to start yet everyone else has ignored it with nothing happening on that front but more wind farms or taking up good land for solar.

this is such an overused and lazy stat.

UK population is c70m, the world's population is c8bn - so less than 1% (0.875% in fact).

Clearly as we are such a small country in the grand scheme of things our emissions will always be limited.

However, we are also one of the richest countries in the world, are an island which has natural benefits and need to reduce our reliance on importing gas and oil from aboard (as Russia and now Iran wars have highlighted).

If we want lower utility bills, then we need to be producing more energy ourselves and via the cheapest routes. I know transporting the electricity around the country is still an issue but solar and wind are clearly cheaper and cleaner.

IMHO the drilling in the North Sea debate is misguided. As far as i'm aware all current oil fields can continue extracting as much oil as they can, however, this is then sold at global oil prices so the impact on the price we pay is minimal. Any new oil field will take years to produce and so will also have minimal impact. Furthermore, producing oil offshore is so much more expensive than on shore (c£30 per barrel v £3) that it is not as cost effective as people think.

Alternatively we can just ignore the problem and kick the can down the road for the next generation to sort out.

Being overused and lazy doesn't stop it being true.

I find it difficult to square the position of accepting the science of climate change while rejecting attempts to change or influence behaviour.

If you believe in climate change, then you believe the outcomes we're on course for future generations are a millions times worse than you being gently encouraged to get an electric car.

just also pondering the irony of how helicopters are not subject to ULEZ restrictions. 🤣🤣🤣

And the bigger issue is China and the Asian countries reliance on coal,...and thank goodness oil can come through the Strait of Hormuz 👍

Burns coal while moving to EV and manufacturing most of the world's eco products (the real reason Trump is anti Green). One step back; one-and-a-bit steps forward.

Our economies in the West are currently lagging behind in trade; but there may come a time when all our energy is renewable. This will give us a huge advantage over those economies now expanding on diminishing fossil fuels.

The parable of the man who built his house on solid foundations for the religious out there.

How? Why is it okay for the BBC and sky news to fly helicopters to watch a train and cabs yet I would get fined driving into London? 🤣

It's the hypocrisy of it all.
The Fourth Estate is considered a vital part of our democracy. I have no issue with their use of wasteful transport.

Presumably, we are also agreed on military and emergency services use?

It is the super rich who no doubt create lucrative marketing "green" credentials for their businesses but whose lifestyles are anything but.
