Main Stand redevelopment thread

There is also the stadium naming rights to consider. These can be worth millions. No organisation worth their salt would want to sponsor our ground. Well maybe the Beddington Sewerage Works or Veolia or similar. With one new stand there is the possibility. Rebuild the Arthur and it becomes a probability.

I am sad that the Beanos record shop has gone, because it was such an iconic part of Croydon that the Beanos Stand at Selhurst Park would have been a thing of glory.

Perhaps in celebration of such a perfect sponsorship, everyone could have received a free New Model Army vinyl at the opening.

I guess we could be stuck with the Coughlans Bakery Stand and a sliced large bloomer/pink meringue combo.

£££££££

You are thinking small it's not about just local people football is global.

Revenue is not limited to just people on match day. (This outside of tv money is revenue wise important and it doesn't need to just be local fans having space for tourists is a good thing )

Take a look at the worlds biggest clubs they are global brands this attracts not only people who want to attend games but it increases revenue from sponsors also means they get more exposure tv wise.

Merchandise sales do make a difference if you are not only selling it from just your club shop.

This was a long time ago but when Real Madrid signed Beckham people questioned the transfer fee it was high but the club sold that many shirts it covered that fee.
I like your thinking , yes wider interest is the bonus

So our target is to be a major global brand, what's the time frame on that?

I want us to improve and grow the club but we need to be realistic

For example, we are a smaller club than West Ham by any metric other than last two years' success.

I didn't say major brand but in this modern era you need to be a appealing to a global market not doing so is missing out on a large market.

Even SJ knew this back when he failed as our club owner.

SP appears to not want to do this and thinks like a small minded man.

With the owners we have we should be associating with there brands this is a bit like what the multi club ownership is about (Multi sport ownership even better)

You can't grow unless you expand out.

Why are we a smaller club then West Ham? we shouldn't be.

Sorry you are very anti SP time and time again , which division is West ham ,
be more anti and recognise what he has done with club , in real time we are 16 year old , don't belittle achievements because you don't like him , makes you very shallow ,
we all want the world but in reality its a very very big task , we have gone from broke to having money in the bank , have billionaires owners , maybe not spend all there money on us to your liking but they are part of our progress , so show support for board and club , instead of belittling every step

Just a thought and so it will remain, if we want a significantly bigger stadium we need to move, it's as simple as that
Nowhere to move to. According to Parish all options have been exhausted within London and no one reall has an appetite for Gatwick Airport. Least of all Crawley who are there already!

Plus its unrealistic expectations for anyone to believe we should or could challenge the top 6, no one expects that. But compare us to West ham, take prem money away from us and we're no bigger than any other club in the championship and could easily spend years languishing there if we ever get relegated. West ham are far bigger than any championship club and wont spend many seasons out of the top flight, thats where we should aspire to be.

The last 2 seasons have been the best in the clubs history and the perfect time to attract new fans but our stadium has prevented us from doing that.
I dont go along with that. West Ham are not much bigger than Palace and Championship teams such as Birmingham City, Norwich City, even Stoke City would see themselves as just as big as West Ham if they had the same TV income

I agree, I'm not suggesting that the new stand plus a new Arthur will suddenly make us serious challengers to the big 6, but if we want to remain competitive in the PL we have to increase our capacity as much as we realistically can.
Agree, We're going backwards in this division if we dont keep striving to move forwards

That's a tall order where Dead Grumpy's concerned.

Massive catchment area, the problem has been that around the ground has a high percentage of black residents, that generally don’t go to football, Arsenal being the exception.
Then heading into central London there’s loads of big football clubs to compete with.
Head out of London, towards Surrey/Sussex/Kent the areas are massive, demographic is high in middle class people, who in the 80s/90s had no interest in getting chased around football fans by people from council estates with lumps of wood.
Football has moved away from the working classes and you get a lot more middle class people attending , that is the massive part of our catchment area , heading for miles, before you get near another football club. When you do , they aren’t massive clubs like Spurs/Arsenal/Chelsea in London.

Think you mean a wider fan base more than bigger fan base , Our catchment area is the biggest in London , sadly not enough fans from it , but that must be rising now 👍🏻

Que? Wet Spam have crowds averaging 60K ours is 25K
That gives them far bigger income than us, competence in the transfer market and how the club is run is a different thing
With that income they will buy their way out of the Championship. They don't have the global appeal of the "Big 6" so will always struggle at that level but are way bigger than us
Our crowd and income puts us mid Championship, we are an over performing championship club and that is entirely down to Parish and his managerial skills at that level
Getting a bigger ground will push us up the greasy pole a bit maybe our place will be bottom half of the Prem
The next level is the new stand, and having a greater income
None of the yanks are here for the glory they are here to make money, they are not going to pay for anything without a return. If Goldman Sachs are ready to lend us £XXXmil it's because we have billionaire owners.

They're much bigger than all them clubs, they've rarely been out the top flight. I think the football pyramid in this country is pretty obvious, you have the big 6 then you have leeds, villa, Everton, Newcastle and west ham. After that there's really not much difference between 30 other clubs, tho Sunderland are the biggest. With our catchment area we should be looking to compete with at the very least Sunderland.

What difference does it make to local youngsters at the moment if they pick Chelsea, arsenal etc over us ? That would change if they atleast had access to watching their local club. Its too hard to attract new fans in the 2nd tier, most people are only interested in watching sport at the highest level.

I'm not anti SP at all not like so many of you with rose tinted specs as if he is a messiah.

I call out what I see.

SP didn't save us he had very little wealth to do so (I am not even goign to get into him meddlingin the background which is why the club got into trouble it's well documented in SJ book and if it was false legal action would have been taken to have it removed) if you remember it without the blinkers on it was due to the other 3 who was the ones with the £££ the same ones which kept there promise to secure the club and leave.

Our billionaire owners want out they have done for years (Woody appears to be only one who wants to stay for now)

What is the one on Keeley Rd now? Was 101 Records. I believe it is still open under another name, though I could be wrong.

So parish didnt have a 25% share , parish didnt get the other 3 involved , SJ never lies , SJ brought selhurst park of uncle Ron , if our owners wanted out they would have gone by now , and the list goes on , so Simon whats your reply
