It's certainly been attempted on a few occasions. From what I've seen, at least half of those attempts have ended in a terrible outcome.

I'd settle for one not called Maureen. Gladys, Mabel, Florrie...anything.
Report today reckons Everton offered £11 m + £7 m in add-ons which was rightly knocked back. If we really want him and he wants come here why not just pay the asking price which is said to be £25 m with £20 m upfront? A bit of haggling is understandable but not if it loses the deal.
Unless Sage has his sights set on Claude Hopper the Lump from Lens.

He's very highly rated here by the Boro faithful. They are resigned and certain he will leave here this summer. Most fans are disappointed they didn't get a striker in the Jan transfer window, as scoring was an issue for them all season. If there was to be a swap deal of some sort then it's a striker Boro need.

the guy is 23 and has 1 year left on his contract. He will be a free transfer in 12 months.

I don't think Boro are in an overly strong bargaining position.

£15m with maybe £5m in adds on seems more than reasonable given he's never kicked a ball in the Prem.

Obviously any transfer fee will reflect his wage demand too, as it's the overall package that is important. If his agent is asking for silly money then the transfer fee will be adjusted accordingly.

He also missed a bit of the season through injury.
