New Chief Scout

Well, we have overhauled our scouting department since then. In fact, we barely had a department at that time, just Dougie bless him.

Those kind of names that have been mentioned above are more of the kind of thing I'm talking about. Plucking Vardy out of League One after one season, and he became who he is today, is great scouting.

Nobody knew about Kante before Leicester. Nunes may have been known as he was playing a higher level, but I can't say I knew him before Wolves.
Vardy was bought for a cool £1m from Fleetwood who were conference level at the time. He had never played league football, although was very highly rated - hence the price tag for a non-league footballer.

Throwing back the years, whoever picked Wrighty out in non-league and brought him to Selhurst, that's a good example of talent identification.
From X.

Harry Redknapp on how he missed out on signing Ian Wright and signed Carl Richards instead:
“I bought Carl for £10,000, went to pick him up from Enfield and while he went in to say goodbye to his manager, he left me with his mate.”“‘What are you signing him for? I’ve got 26 goals this season, he’s only got 12. I’m different class than him. Why don’t you sign me?”“I was worried. ‘I can’t buy you, I’m buying him,’ I told Carl’s mate, ‘but I’ll keep an eye out for you, don’t worry.”“So we took Carl and he was absolutely useless. He could run, but that was about it. We played about six games, but couldn’t win one. Carl was terrible.”“After about four games of this, he came to see me. ‘I’ve got a mate,’ he said. ‘He was asking if he could have a trial. He’s a striker, like me.’“‘And is he as good as you, Carl?’ I asked, suspiciously. ‘No, he’s not as good as me,’ he said, ‘but he’s decent.’“‘Well, tell him not to f***ing bother then,’ I snapped, and that was the end of it.”

Kante was identified by Leicester's Head of Recruitment Steve Walsh and signed by Ranieri from Caen for £5.5 Mill.
A very unassuming human being, he used to travel to training at Boulogne on a scooter, at Leicester he had a battered old car and when he arrived at Chelsea his idea of an upgrade was to purchase a Mini, albeit a new one.

Thanks Palace99, you are absolutely right. He was flying at Non-League level, but very few in the game at the time would have thought that could transfer up four levels of the football pyramid with such ease.

Hard to know if there's any truth to it with Harry, most of his tales are exactly that, tales... but it is funny either way.

We're going to have a good idea of players coming through the UK and wider European pyramid by pure proximity. There's no point getting in a high paid expert who's only an expert in what we already know. Makes sense to get someone who knows another region with a world renowned football DNA.

What a player he is as well. They say water covers two thirds of the earth. The other third is covered by Kante
