...and the England goalkeeper is not the best goalkeeper in England. Certainly in terms of recent silverware.
He's on a streak though - you can't blame Tuchel for not dropping him currently. Just the way it is. He looks like a bit of a weak link to be fair.
However, Henderson is a great goalie. Maybe our best ever in terms of ability. But I must say he has the odd mistake in him too.

I kept saying that one of Japan’s midfield players was sh!t; seemed anonymous, a bit behind the pace, ponderous, and whilst neat and tidy, a bit of a liability with no outstanding talent.

Anyway, he ended up getting their equaliser against the Dutch in the dying minutes, so what do I know?

I'm not sure that he knew he scored. It was one of those.

How the hell did qualification work? Some teams must have just played themselves twice or something. As usual, there's no real discussion on the obvious corruption.
There are some proper awful teams.

Certain countries (England, Netherlands) must look with envy at teams others have drawn (Germany, Spain, Sweden).

Kind of like group stage rugby WC.

The round of 32 should be seen as the true start of the tournament.

Italy failed again. And as aside I thought Sweden were very good and they only qualified fairly late in the qualifications. There have been some entertaining matches and we've only just started.

We can't just have teams from Europe and South America. Each country has to start somewhere.

Fifty years ago teams from the African continent were very weak and look at them now.

Australia have been very poor at previous World Cups but they won impressively against Turkey.

Italy have failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2022 and 2026. A bit like England in the 1970's. Its their own fault, no one elses.

Infantino is an appalling individual but FIFA can't be blamed for 'famous' nations failing to qualify.

He's very nippy.

In fact they all are.

Personally I like the weirdness of some matches.....the potential for unusual results or lopsided scores.

Let the world play the world so to speak.

But yeah, the serious stuff starts at 32.

Then everyone starts? This is genuine football nations being excluded for some President's Eleven in some cases.

Italy not playing is just weird.

If it were down to me I'd make what is currently qualifying as a different competition in some way and I'd make the actual World Cup longer and start with everyone.

But it's just a view....probably loads of problems doing that.
